What Vianney Halter introduced in 2021
Halter’s official release, dated 5 January 2021, presented the Deep Space Resonance as a new technical development built around the maker’s emblematic three-axis tourbillon. The release says the tourbillon cage was re-engineered to integrate two acoustically synchronized balance wheels, following several years of research and development.
The concept extends an existing design rather than starting from a conventional single-axis tourbillon. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie dates the earlier Deep Space Tourbillon to 2013, and Halter’s 2022 La Resonance press kit describes the 2021 watch as a transformation of that earlier instrument.
How the resonance mechanism is intended to work
A balance wheel is the oscillating component that helps regulate a mechanical watch. In the Deep Space Resonance, two balances are integrated into the tourbillon assembly and connected through a shared rigid bridge. Launch-era reporting says the vibrations of the paired balances influence one another, with the intended result that they reach a common frequency.

Time and Watches reported that each balance beat at 21,600 vibrations per hour. That figure describes the reported rate of oscillation; it does not establish that the prototype achieved a particular accuracy or outperformed another watch in testing. The available launch accounts describe the design’s aim, not a verified accuracy result.

The defining difference is the pair of interacting balances, not simply the presence of a tourbillon. The sources support a comparison of architecture, but not a ranking of timekeeping performance.

How to read the prototype’s unusual dial
The launch prototype used a display inspired by a Vernier caliper, with separate upper and lower apertures. According to launch coverage, the upper aperture indicated the hour and quarter, while the lower aperture supplied the additional minutes by showing which marks aligned most closely. In other words, the minute reading depended on comparing marks rather than reading a single conventional minute hand against a numbered scale.
That approach made the prototype distinctive but less immediately legible. SJX’s launch coverage said a redesigned, easier-to-read display was expected for a production version. The Vernier-style layout described here belongs to the prototype; it should not be assumed to represent a later version.

Launch-era specifications and what they do—and do not—tell you
Time and Watches reported a hand-wound movement, a 65-hour power reserve, and a 371-part three-axis system in its January 2021 coverage. It also reported a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour for each balance. These are historical specifications reported at launch, not independently verified laboratory results, and the sources do not establish that they apply to any later production version.

The available sources establish the 2021 debut and Halter’s 2022 retrospective, but they do not establish a current price, production cadence, ordering terms, or stock. A launch-era price or delivery expectation would not be a current quote; SJX later corrected the price information in its article. For current status, a prospective buyer would need confirmation directly from Vianney Halter or a retailer whose authorized status and inventory have been verified.
