Victorinox’s 2012–2013 workbook gives the Dive Master 500 line a 500 m (50 ATM, 1,650 ft) water-resistance rating. Genuine rubber straps and black Ice PVD also appear in the catalog material, but these are model-dependent details, not a confirmed equipment list for every Mechanical watch. Accordingly, the 500 m figure is best treated as a historical line specification, not a verified rating for an unidentified Mechanical reference or a guarantee that a pre-owned example remains watertight. A specific watch’s reference and documentation should be checked before relying on any of these features.
Why the Automatic 241355 is not a substitute
A retailer listing for the distinct Dive Master 500 Automatic reference 241355 gives a 43 mm case, 14.1 mm thickness, ETA 2892.A2 automatic caliber, sapphire crystal, date, and rubber strap. Those particulars belong to that Automatic listing; they do not establish the Mechanical variant’s specs. The retailer page also conflicts with itself on water resistance: its descriptive copy says “500 meters,” while a separate field says “100 meters.” That inconsistency makes it unsuitable as definitive evidence for the Automatic’s rating, much less the Mechanical model’s. Is it a good dive watch?
On paper, the Dive Master 500 line has features associated with a dive-oriented instrument: a rotating bezel, a protected screw-down crown, luminous markings, and a substantial historical catalog water-resistance figure. But the available evidence does not verify the Mechanical model’s exact configuration or provide independent accuracy, durability, or water-resistance testing. It would therefore be misleading to give this variant an unqualified performance verdict based on line-level catalog copy.
For a current owner or buyer, the more important question is the condition of the particular watch. An original rating does not establish that an older watch’s seals remain sound. What to check before buying a used example
Because the exact Mechanical reference is not established by the indexed manual entry, evaluate an individual listing from its own evidence rather than from the family name alone.
- Reference and movement: Ask for a clear caseback photo and documentation identifying the reference and caliber. Do not assume the ETA movement listed for Automatic 241355 is present.
- Fit and construction: Verify diameter, thickness, lug-to-lug length, case material or coating, crystal, bezel markings, crown operation, and the strap or bracelet attachment on that exact reference.
- Condition and originality: Check for case wear, coating damage or refinishing, replaced parts, and whether the strap is genuine or aftermarket. Confirm strap dimensions before ordering a replacement.
- Service and water resistance: Request service records and a recent pressure-test result if water use matters. Ask Victorinox or a qualified watchmaker whether parts and service are available for the identified reference.
- Transaction details: Compare condition, completeness, provenance, and asking price at the time of purchase. No reliable current market price is established here.
