The Victorinox Journey 1884 is a family of watches, not one uniform model: the documented references differ in movement, strap, finish and included accessories. The quartz 242012 is the steel-bracelet version; other official variants include a leather-strap quartz, a wood-strap automatic and a numbered limited edition. Check the exact reference before comparing specifications or buying a strap.
Which Victorinox Journey 1884 references are documented?
Victorinox’s official product pages distinguish these four configurations. Dimensions and water resistance below are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results.
| Reference | Movement and original strap | Documented distinguishing details |
|---|---|---|
| 242012 | Quartz; stainless-steel bracelet | Green dial and gold-tone bezel on the US page; 43 mm diameter, 12 mm height, 21 mm lug width and 200 m water resistance. Date, unidirectional rotating bezel and luminescent hands. Victorinox describes it as magnetic resistant and shock protected, and says the bracelet is tool-free changeable. Victorinox product page. |
| 241976.1 | Quartz; brown leather strap | 43 mm diameter, 21 mm lug width and 200 m water resistance; listed with an extra strap and accessories wallet. The included extra strap may vary by market or bundle. Victorinox product page. |
| 241980.1 | Automatic; wood strap | Ceramic bezel inlay; listed with an extra blue rubber strap and accessories wallet. 43 mm diameter, 21 mm lug width and 200 m water resistance. Victorinox product page. |
| 242016.1 | Quartz; paracord strap | Limited to 1,884 individually numbered pieces; includes a Swiss Army Knife, extra rubber strap and accessories wallet. 43 mm diameter, 21 mm lug width and 200 m water resistance. Check the regional listing and genuine stock. Victorinox Limited Edition page. |
Victorinox’s 242012 product copy says the quartz Journey 1884 “was designed in homage to both the natural world and its engineering DNA.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent assessment.
What size is the Victorinox Journey 1884?
For reference 242012, Victorinox lists a 43 mm case diameter, 12 mm height and 21 mm lug width. The other references above are also listed at 43 mm diameter and 21 mm lug width; the cited details do not establish their case height. A shared diameter does not establish how each configuration will feel on a particular wrist, so try the exact reference if fit is decisive.

Is the Journey 1884 automatic or quartz?
It depends on the reference. The 242012 and 241976.1 are quartz, as is limited edition 242016.1. Reference 241980.1 is automatic. Do not infer the movement from the Journey 1884 name alone.
Can you change the Journey 1884 bracelet or strap?
Victorinox describes the 242012 steel bracelet as tool-free changeable, and its product pages describe changeable straps for the line. However, the listed 21 mm lug width does not by itself establish that a standard aftermarket strap will fit a proprietary attachment. Confirm the exact reference and attachment system before ordering a replacement. On versions sold with extra straps, verify the bundle for your market rather than assuming the included accessory is identical everywhere.
