Procedural updates are distinct from the question of the watch. Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office said on December 4, 2024, that the case would continue in the national criminal and correctional jurisdiction while the investigation remained underway.
On February 20, 2025, the Associated Press reported that an appeals court dropped culpable-homicide charges against three of the five people indicted in connection with Payne’s death: Rogelio Nores, CasaSur manager Gilda Martin, and receptionist Esteban Grassi. The other two defendants remained subject to prosecution on allegations of supplying narcotics. These were procedural positions, not findings that all defendants were either guilty or cleared.
The Buenos Aires Herald reported that the court found no evidence that the three whose culpable-homicide charges were dropped had engaged in illegal or negligent conduct, and that the circumstances of the fall remained unclear. These dated updates do not establish whether the Rolex was subsequently found.
