A strap change is a contained styling choice that you can usually reverse. Changing a dial, bezel, bracelet, or case finish is a different kind of project: it can void a manufacturer guarantee, and if it involves opening the case, it can require service work that most owners cannot do at home. Before you commit to any modification, check which group it belongs to and what the brand’s published terms say about it.
Sort mods by how far they go
Treat each modification as a separate decision. The table below compares the common categories on the five questions that matter most: how reversible the change is, whether the part is confirmed to fit your exact reference, what the brand’s warranty terms say, whether the work touches the case seals, and whether you can verify the base watch before spending money.

TUDOR: what the guarantee covers and what it excludes
TUDOR states that watches sold since 2020 carry a five-year international guarantee. Its guarantee terms also say that substituting components with, or adding components or accessories not manufactured by TUDOR, will invalidate the guarantee. Third-party work is covered by the same restriction. The practical effect is that a non-TUDOR strap, bracelet, bezel, dial, or coating will each put the guarantee at risk, even though a strap is the least invasive of these changes.
TUDOR’s own service process shows why opening the case is a bigger step than it looks. Its service description says seals are replaced during case reassembly, and that waterproofness is checked with vacuum and pressure tests followed by condensation detection. TUDOR states that servicing should only be carried out by an Official Rolex or TUDOR Service Centre. No brand source reviewed quantifies how much water resistance a given aftermarket modification would reduce, so you should not assume a mod leaves it unchanged.

Tissot: a 24-month US warranty with its own limits
Tissot’s US warranty page states a 24-month warranty. It excludes a watch handled by non-authorised persons, for example for battery replacement, services, or repairs, and a watch altered in its original condition beyond Tissot S.A.’s control. Tissot recommends approved Tissot retailers or service centres for maintenance. These terms apply to the US market only; warranty periods and exclusions in other regions may differ, so check the terms for your country.
Tissot’s strap policy is the most concrete fit information among the brands covered here. Customers can search its interchangeable-strap selection using their watch reference. If a strap you want is not available online, Tissot says to contact its Spare Parts department. A reference match confirms that the strap was designed for your model; it does not confirm how the strap will feel on your wrist or that it will suit a watch sold in a different configuration.

Confirm the watch is authentic before you modify it
Modification is a poor use of money on a watch you cannot verify. Tissot says it sells its watches through authorised retailers and its official online boutiques, and it describes a Watch-Secur identification system. If you see a repeated-registration notice when you register a watch, Tissot’s published guidance notes several possible causes, including second-hand ownership and multiple registrations, as well as counterfeit concerns. A notice alone does not prove a watch is counterfeit, but it is a reason to verify before buying parts or paying for work.
A decision sequence before any mod
- Confirm the exact model and reference number from the caseback or the original papers.
- Check the brand’s current guarantee terms for your market and the date of purchase.
- For Tissot, search the interchangeable-strap selection by reference. For any other part, do not buy until you have written confirmation that it fits your exact reference.
- If the change requires opening the case, book the work with an authorised service centre, not a general jeweller, and ask in writing whether the seals will be replaced and how water resistance will be tested.
- Keep the original parts and receipts so you can restore the watch if you later need a warranty claim.
Where this leaves the mods most owners actually want
For most owners, a reference-matched strap is the lowest-risk change, and for Tissot it has a brand-supported route. The strap is still an accessory that TUDOR’s terms address, so a TUDOR owner who wants to keep the guarantee should treat any non-TUDOR strap as a decision with a cost. Bracelets, bezels, dials, and coatings are a different category. Both brands’ published terms treat them as changes that can affect the guarantee, and the case work they require is specialist work. This article does not verify any named aftermarket component or the compatibility of any part with a specific reference, so treat any visual preference as separate from a verified fit or service outcome.
