How do I know my watch strap size?
For a conventional watch, start with the watch’s manual or the manufacturer’s product page. Look up the case reference and the specified strap or lug width. If the size is not listed, measure the gap between the lugs in millimeters; the strap’s watch-end width should match that measurement.

Width is only one part of fit. A strap may narrow from the watch end to the buckle, so check its taper as well as the width at both ends. Choose a length suited to your wrist and confirm whether your watch needs a standard straight spring bar, a curved bar, an integrated bracelet, or a proprietary connector. Union Glashütte’s 2026 catalogue distinguishes lug width from strap taper and directs customers to the case reference or collection information when checking its products.
Pay particular attention to metal bracelets: solid, rounded end links may fit only listed references, and some clasps work only with specific straps. A straight-end-link design may fit other models if the width is right, but verify compatibility for the exact watch rather than relying on width alone. Which strap material suits your routine?
There is no universally best strap material. Consider how the watch will be worn, how often it may encounter water or sweat, the desired appearance, and the care the strap requires. Construction and the specific product matter as much as the material label.

What is a quick release strap?
A quick-release strap has a spring bar with a small lever that lets you retract the bar by hand, usually without a separate tool. It can make removal easier, but quick release is a feature of selected straps—not a standard feature of every strap. Union Glashütte marks the feature on some products in its catalogue.

How to change a conventional spring-bar strap safely
- Check the watch manual or manufacturer’s instructions for the correct attachment method. If the watch has an unfamiliar connector, curved bars or an integrated bracelet, do not assume a standard spring-bar procedure applies.
- Work over a soft, stable surface and use an appropriate spring-bar tool. Take care to avoid slipping and scratching the case or lugs.
- Remove the old strap by retracting the spring bar. Fit the replacement with the correct bar for the watch and strap.
- Before wearing the watch, check that both ends of the spring bar have seated securely in the lug holes. An incompletely seated bar can release and allow the watch to fall.
If the attachment is unfamiliar or the watch is valuable, ask the manufacturer or a watchmaker to change the strap rather than risking damage.

Apple Watch bands: compatibility, fit and care
Apple Watch bands use Apple’s connector and supported case-size families, not the conventional lug-width system. Check Apple’s current band compatibility and materials guidance for the exact watch and band. Apple also gives fit guidance for Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop bands; those sizing details are specific to those band types.
The band should keep the sensor in contact with your skin. Apple Support advises: “If the back of your Apple Watch loses contact with your skin, you should tighten the strap of your Apple Watch.”

Apple lists materials including fluoroelastomer or rubber, nylon and polyester blends, leather, stainless steel and titanium across its band families. Its guidance says leather, stainless steel, FineWoven Magnetic Link and Modern Buckle bands, as well as certain Hermès knit bands, are not recommended for water or workouts. Follow the specific band’s instructions rather than generalizing from material alone.
