Watchfest 5 took place in Sydney in November 2024, with a boutique gala, a public exhibition and a city-centre watch crawl. The same month, Patek Philippe’s new Cubitus collection debuted in three versions, introducing the brand’s rounded-square case and horizontally embossed dials. Here’s what the 2024 event included—and how that original Cubitus launch differs from the collection Patek Philippe lists today.
What was Watchfest 5?
Watchfest’s fifth edition was a community-run watch and horology convention held in Sydney from November 1 to 16, 2024. Time+Tide described it as Australia’s largest watch and horology convention; that is the publisher’s characterization, not a quantified comparison. The event has passed, so its schedule and free-ticket information apply to the 2024 edition only. Time+Tide’s October 18, 2024 preview reported three main activities.
Opening-night gala
The program began Friday, November 1, with an opening-night gala at the Omega boutique.
Public exhibition
A day-long exhibition followed on Saturday, November 2, at the State Library of New South Wales.

Sydney watch crawl
On Thursday, November 7, the watch crawl returned: a walk among watch boutiques in Sydney’s central business district. Time+Tide named Longines, Nivada Grenchen, Omega, Oris, Panerai, Roger Dubuis, Studio Underd0g, TAG Heuer, Zenith, Seiko and Grand Seiko as participating brands.
The preview said tickets were free for the 2024 edition and directed readers to Watchfest 2024 registration. It does not establish current ticketing or plans for a later edition.

What was new about the Patek Philippe Cubitus?
Patek Philippe introduced the Cubitus collection in 2024 in three versions: a platinum model with a grand-date display, a two-tone rose-gold-and-steel model, and a steel model. The design departs from the familiar round watch case with a square shape softened by rounded edges. Horizontal relief embossing gives the dials texture, while polished and vertical satin-brushed surfaces create contrast on the cases and bracelets.
Patek Philippe President Thierry Stern described the intended character this way: “I would like this watch to have a real sporty, fresh spirit. Capturing the essence of a convertible car.” The quote and launch details appear on the official Cubitus collection page.

How does the 2024 launch range compare with today’s collection?
The initial trio is not the whole current lineup. Patek Philippe’s collection page also lists white-gold and rose-gold 40 mm references introduced in 2025. The table separates the launch-era models from the later additions without implying that every specification or current price is the same across the range.

What are the specifications and displayed price of reference 7128/1G-001?
Patek Philippe’s official page for the white-gold Cubitus 7128/1G-001 lists a 40 mm diagonal case, 8.5 mm thickness and 30 m water resistance. Its self-winding 26-330 S C caliber provides a date, sweep seconds and a 35–45-hour power reserve. The dial is blue-gray with horizontal embossing. These are specifications for this reference, not for every Cubitus.
