The original watchOS 10 upgrade supports Apple Watch Series 4 and later, paired with an iPhone XS or later running iOS 17. Its biggest changes include a context-aware Smart Stack, redesigned apps, expanded cycling metrics, and new Mindfulness and daylight features.
What is the latest watchOS 10 version?
Apple’s watchOS 10 update page lists watchOS 10.6.2 as the latest 10.x release. Apple says it extends a certificate required for features including iMessage, FaceTime, and device activation to continue working after January 2027. See Apple’s watchOS 10 update page for the release details.
Earlier updates added or fixed the following:
- watchOS 10.6.1: fixes an issue that could prevent access to Apple Fitness+.
- watchOS 10.6: bug fixes and security updates.
- watchOS 10.5: adds the Pride Radiance watch face.
- watchOS 10.4: includes notification, Apple Pay, and synchronization changes.
- watchOS 10.2: adds HomePod proximity playback and workout controls.
- watchOS 10.1: adds Double Tap and NameDrop, alongside other fixes.
Which Apple Watches and iPhones are compatible?
The original watchOS 10 release supports Apple Watch Series 4 and later. Installing it requires an iPhone XS or later running iOS 17. Apple notes that features may vary by device and region, so eligibility for the operating system does not guarantee access to every feature.
Compatibility depends on both the watch and its companion iPhone. A qualifying watch still needs the required iPhone and iOS version for the original upgrade. Some features also depend on newer watch hardware; for example, watchOS 10 introduced Double Tap for supported models, while Modular Ultra is specific to Apple Watch Ultra.

What changed in watchOS 10?
Smart Stack and redesigned apps
Smart Stack brings context-sensitive widgets to the watch face. Depending on what is happening, it can surface morning weather, boarding passes during travel, upcoming Calendar or Reminders items, and currently running apps. Apps including Weather, Stocks, Home, Maps, Messages, and World Clock use more of the display in expanded, rounded layouts.
Control Center opens with the side button, and double-clicking the Digital Crown returns to recently used apps. These navigation changes are especially useful if you rely on the watch face and quick glances rather than opening apps one by one.
