The Serica Ref. 5303 PLD is a 2025 limited-edition adaptation of the brand’s 5303 dive chronometer, developed with an association of French Navy clearance divers. Its defining feature is a ceramic DT MAX bezel with depth and time graduations, intended to show a maximum working-time reference for a given depth. The watch pairs that specialized scale with a 39 mm steel case, 300 m water-resistance rating and COSC-certified automatic movement.
What does “PLD” mean on the Serica 5303?
PLD stands for Plongeur Démineur, or clearance diver. Serica says it developed the Ref. 5303 PLD in close collaboration with the Amicale des Plongeurs Démineurs, an association of French Navy clearance divers. The result is not simply a standard 5303 with a different colorway: its bezel is designed around a depth-and-working-time reference. Serica’s product archive and service reference describe that collaboration and intended function.
What does the DT MAX bezel do?
The ceramic bezel has a dual graduation in meters and minutes. Serica describes DT MAX—Durée de Travail Maximale, or maximum working time—as an instant reference for the maximum working time at a given depth, with the intended profile allowing a continuous ascent without decompression stops. That is the maker’s description of the feature, not independent validation of a dive plan. The scale is not a substitute for dive training, planning or equipment.
This specialized layout is the main functional departure from the more familiar elapsed-time bezel used to time an interval. The Watch Observer notes that the DT MAX markings may be less useful for ordinary timing tasks. Buyers should consider whether the depth/time reference suits their needs rather than assuming it works like a conventional dive-watch bezel.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How is the PLD different from the regular Serica 5303?
The PLD retains the 5303’s compact steel dive-watch platform but adapts its display and details to the collaboration. Serica identifies a black enamel dial, an enlarged luminous lollipop seconds marker, the “Amagnetic Chronometer” inscription and a deep-blue ceramic bezel insert. Its service reference lists Historic Green and Louise Blue PLD elastic straps, inspired by French combat-diver equipment from the 1970s, as well as the traditional steel bracelet.
There may also be differences among examples. Les Rhabilleurs reported that diver-issued watches had a matte dial and military caseback engraving, while the civilian version had an enamel dial and no military logo. That distinction is from the publication’s report; Serica’s archive describes the civilian limited edition and should not be taken to establish that every delivered watch is identical.

Launch coverage uses two different production figures. Gear Patrol reported 500 watches overall, including 150 issued to the Navy and 350 for the public. Serica’s archive and The Watch Observer refer to the 350-piece limited edition. The figures are consistent if 350 is understood as the public edition or allocation rather than the reported total production. Neither figure establishes current resale supply or value.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is the 5303 PLD for?
- A reader drawn to the collaboration’s specific purpose: the DT MAX scale is the central design feature, with depth and time references rather than a conventional elapsed-time layout.
- A reader considering a compact dive-watch case: the documented 39 mm diameter and 46.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement offer useful fit information, though wrist fit still depends on shape and preference.
- A buyer who wants conventional timing: the unusual bezel may be less intuitive for general elapsed-time use, so compare its markings with the task you expect it to perform.
- A collector assessing provenance: distinguish the civilian edition described by Serica from the reported dial and caseback differences on diver-issued examples.
For comparisons with other dive watches, check bezel purpose and legibility, case dimensions, movement certification and reserve, stated water and magnetic-resistance claims, and bracelet or strap fit. Verify specifications and actual availability for each alternative independently.
