What was new in watchOS 11.2?
Pause iPhone video with Camera Remote
Apple’s release notes say watchOS 11.2 lets Camera Remote pause recording of iPhone video. The watch controls the paired iPhone camera; the release note does not describe the Apple Watch as recording video independently or specify additional recording controls.
Expanded Tides map support in China
The 11.2 change is expanded map support for tidal conditions and coastal locations in China. This does not mean Tides is exclusive to China. Apple describes the broader watchOS 11 Tides app as covering tide information and beaches worldwide, with high and low tides, rising and falling tides, tide height, and direction.
Apple says Tides covers over 115,000 beaches and 5,000 surf spots worldwide. Source: Apple, watchOS 11 release notes.

Security fixes and affected models
Apple’s watchOS 11.2 security-content document dates the release to December 11, 2024, and lists the documented security issues for Apple Watch Series 6 and later. The entries involve components including APFS, Apple Account, Kernel, Passkeys, and WebKit, and describe impacts such as data access, activity tracking, memory-safety problems, denial of service, and code execution.
For example, Apple says CVE-2024-54541 could allow an app to access user-sensitive data, and CVE-2024-40864 could allow activity tracking by an attacker in a privileged network position. These are examples, not a complete list. Apple’s security page has entry and update dates after the software release date; those document dates should not be confused with the December 11, 2024 release date.

How watchOS 11.2 fits into the watchOS 11 release
The China Tides map expansion and iPhone-video pause are the changes Apple identifies specifically for 11.2. The Tides app’s broader worldwide coverage is part of the watchOS 11 context, not a feature that first arrived in 11.2. Apple’s update page lists later watchOS 11 releases through 11.6.2, so 11.2 should be treated as a historical update rather than the current release.
Apple notes that some features may not be available in all countries or areas. Its general update page does not provide a feature-by-feature regional availability table for the two 11.2 changes.
