Did Fortis make a square watch?
Yes. The Fortis 100-year jubilee-book excerpt says square-shaped wristwatches were part of the brand’s assortment in the early 1940s. It also describes an “elegant automatic watch” created in that tradition. The excerpt is hosted by device.report.
That history establishes the category, but not a uniquely identifiable model. The excerpt does not provide a reference number, case dimensions, movement details, production run, or enough specifications to identify a watch from photographs alone. Without model-specific documentation, those details should not be assumed.
Is the Fortis Square a current collection?
Fortis’s current collections catalog names Novonaut, Flieger, Marinemaster, Stratoliner, and Vagabond; it does not list a Square collection. The All Watches catalog likewise does not establish a current Square model. That is different from saying vintage examples cannot be found for resale: current Fortis inventory and secondhand availability are separate questions, and resale stock has not been verified here.

What should you check before buying a vintage Fortis square watch?
Because the historical excerpt does not establish an exact reference or specifications, assess a particular watch on its own evidence rather than treating “Fortis Square” as a complete model identification.
- Reference and provenance: Ask for the reference or other identifying marks and supporting documentation. Confirm that any seller’s description and photographs refer to the same watch.
- Condition and service: Request clear photographs and a description of the watch’s operating condition and service history. Do not infer movement type or service needs from the broad historical account.
- Fit and accessories: Fortis’s catalog has accessory categories for straps, clasps and buckles, and tools and screws. Their existence does not establish fit for a historical Square; match any strap or component to the exact watch and its dimensions.
- Water resistance: Rely on documentation for the specific watch, not an assumption based on the Fortis name or case shape.
- Seller and authenticity: Check the seller’s return terms and the evidence supporting authenticity before treating a secondhand listing as a Fortis model.
Does Fortis’s current warranty cover a vintage Square?
Fortis’s official FAQ says current watches come with a five-year manufacturer warranty. That statement does not establish warranty coverage for a vintage Square. For a pre-owned watch, check the applicable warranty documents and terms for that specific piece.

How does the Square fit Fortis’s present-day identity?
Fortis’s current collections include a Flieger line that the brand describes as inspired by functional WWII B-Uhr observation-watch designs (Flieger collection). That provides context for one part of Fortis’s present-day range; it is not evidence about the historical Square’s design, purpose, or specifications. Fortis’s current catalog describes its watches as made in Grenchen, Switzerland, but that current description should not be used to infer details about an unidentified vintage example.

Only in the literal sense that the watch has a square-shaped case. A design choice can signal a taste for an unusual silhouette, but it cannot establish the wearer’s character. Fortis’s early-1940s square-watch history makes the pun work; it does not make it true.
