You can set up and pair a Google Fitbit Edge without a Premium subscription. You’ll need a Google Account, the Google Health app on a compatible phone, and an internet connection. Google says advanced health-tracking features require a subscription; the service now goes by Google Health Premium, formerly Fitbit Premium.
What you need to set up Fitbit Edge
- A Google Account: Sign in with your account during setup.
- The Google Health app: Google lists Apple iOS 16.4 or later and Android 11 or later as the app requirements for Edge setup. Compatibility can vary by device.
- Internet access: Google requires an internet connection for Edge.
Google’s Fitbit Edge setup guide directs users to pair the tracker in the Google Health app. It lists the Edge tracker, small and large wristbands, and charging cable as box contents; it does not establish that third-party bands or cables are compatible.

What requires Google Health Premium?
Google distinguishes setting up the tracker from using its advanced health-tracking features: setup does not require Premium, but those advanced features do. That does not mean every tracker function or health metric is paywalled. Google’s setup guide describes a three-month Premium trial as optional and says, “You’ll need Google Health Premium to use advanced health tracking features.”
Fitbit Premium’s current name and trial
Google says that as of May 19, 2026, Fitbit Premium was renamed Google Health Premium. Google’s redesigned-app information says new or returning Google Account users will be offered a three-month trial after updating to the Google Health app. The Edge setup guide also describes an optional three-month trial. Eligibility may vary, so check the offer shown in your app rather than assuming every Edge purchase includes it.

Who can access Premium features?
Eligibility depends on the feature and location. Google says Health Coach and Premium coaching features are for users aged 18 or older who have a Fitbit or Pixel Watch, and are available only in the countries listed on its current Premium help page. Internet access is also required. Google says Premium access is included at no extra cost for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers; a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch is required. Check Google’s Premium help information for current regional availability and terms.
Is there a fixed Premium price after the trial?
There is no universal price or trial entitlement established by the Edge setup instructions. A 2026 Google Health Community pre-order announcement described a specific promotion that renewed at $9.99 per month after its three-month trial and ended October 27, 2027. Those terms apply to that offer, not necessarily to every buyer or region. Confirm the subscription price and renewal terms presented to you before accepting a trial.
