Its Mont Blanc dial recalls Uemura’s mountaineering, while its 44 mm steel case, automatic 8L35 movement and 200 m diver’s water-resistance rating define the modern watch. Seiko announced it in 2023; that launch information does not establish current price or availability.
What is the Seiko SLA069?
Seiko names the watch the Prospex 1970 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation Naomi Uemura Limited Edition. The company’s product page lists it as a limited edition of 500 pieces. It belongs to the design line of Seiko’s 1970 diver’s watch, rather than being the original historical watch Uemura wore. Seiko’s product page provides the current manufacturer-published specifications.
How does the design honor Naomi Uemura?
The Mont Blanc dial
The dial depicts Mont Blanc, with a textured surface intended to evoke its rocky and snowy terrain. Seiko says pressing and etching techniques give the mountain image depth, and that the view is shown from the angle at which Uemura began his ascent. Luminous hands and markers aid legibility; the date window sits between four and five o’clock, leaving all 12 hour markers visible. The bracelet has five rows. The 1970 watch and Uemura’s expedition
Seiko’s 1970 diver followed the company’s first Japanese diver’s watch by five years. Its flowing case has an asymmetrical extension that protects the crown at four o’clock, a defining shape carried into the SLA069.

Seiko’s 2023 announcement says Uemura wore the original 1970 diver’s watch during his solo dog-sled journey from Greenland to Alaska, which lasted 18 months and covered 12,000 kilometers from 1974 to 1976. That connection is to the original watch, not evidence that Uemura wore the later SLA069. The announcement also attributes to Uemura the line, “When one dream is realized, other dreams will follow,” which Seiko says appears on the special box. Seiko’s announcement, dated March 8, 2023, is the source for these historical details.

These figures are listed on Seiko’s SLA069 product page. The 44 mm diameter and 49.3 mm lug-to-lug measurement are useful fit references, though wrist comfort also depends on wrist shape and personal preference.

In its March 8, 2023 announcement, Seiko gave an approximate US recommended retail price of $2,900 and said the watch would be available at select retailers in May or June 2023. Those are launch-era details, not a current price quotation or confirmation of present stock. The cited Seiko materials do not establish current retail availability or market pricing, so buyers should check with retailers for up-to-date listings.
