Tutima traces its origins to Glashütte in 1927, and the Patria collection reflects the company’s later return to watchmaking in the Saxon town. Tutima describes three titanium Patria variants with different dial and strap pairings but the same 41 mm Grade 5 titanium case and hand-wound Caliber 617. The available release information does not establish that they are chronologically the three newest Patria watches.
What is the history of Tutima Glashütte?
1927: Tutima begins in Glashütte
Tutima’s official history dates the company’s beginnings to 1927, when Dr. Ernst Kurtz led the UROFA movement factory and UFAG watch factory in Glashütte. The name Tutima comes from the Latin tutus, meaning safe or protected. The company says Kurtz reserved it for high-quality watches and reliable calibers. In its own English-language release, Tutima recalls that Kurtz used the name as a “hallmark of excellence” for “the highest-class models and most reliable calibers.” This is the company’s account, rather than an independently verified historical finding. After the war: a restart in Lower Saxony
Tutima says its restart took place in Ganderkesee, Lower Saxony, where it sought to preserve the ideals of Glashütte watchmaking. According to the company, Dieter Delecate continued that restart from the 1960s. This chapter separates the brand’s Glashütte origins from its later return to production in the town.
2011–2013: a return to Glashütte production
On May 12, 2011, Tutima presented HOMMAGE, which it describes as its first minute repeater developed and produced entirely in Glashütte. In April 2013, it presented the Patria, Saxon One, Grand Flieger and M2 collections. Tutima calls these its first collections created again in Glashütte after 68 years. The Patria’s place in the brand’s story is therefore tied to this return, not simply to the 1927 founding. Tutima’s official history
