Laurent Ferrier marked the 15th anniversary of its independent watchmaking brand in 2025 with two watches looking back to different parts of its story: the Sport Auto 79, tied to the founders’ 1979 Le Mans result, and the Classic Tourbillon Teal, which revisits the brand’s first creation. The releases share an anniversary but take sharply different routes—one a red-gold automatic with an integrated bracelet, the other a platinum, hand-wound tourbillon in a five-piece edition.
Why Laurent Ferrier’s anniversary reaches back to 1979
The company’s official history dates Laurent Ferrier’s brand launch to 2010. Its roots, however, go back to a friendship built around mechanics and racing: in 1979, a team that included Ferrier, François Servanin and François Trisconi placed third overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 935T. The brand says Servanin later gave Ferrier the opportunity to develop a watch and establish the company. Those are distinct milestones: the race was in 1979; the watch brand launched in 2010. The first watch, the Classic Tourbillon Double Hairspring, received the GPHG Best Men’s Watch award in 2010, according to the brand. Ferrier’s stated aspiration was to make watches embodying “simplicity, precision, and pure, uncluttered beauty.” (Laurent Ferrier’s official history)

Sport Auto 79: a racing tribute in red gold
The Sport Auto 79 makes the anniversary’s motorsport link explicit. Laurent Ferrier describes it as a tribute to the 1979 Le Mans result and to the beginning of the founders’ watchmaking ambition. Its 41.5 mm 5N red-gold case flows into an integrated bracelet, framing a cream opaline dial. The brand gives water resistance as 120 metres. (Laurent Ferrier’s Sport Auto 79 article, June 2, 2025)
Inside is the automatic LF270.01 calibre. The maker specifies a micro-rotor and a 950 platinum oscillating weight. The automatic winding system distinguishes this watch from the hand-wound anniversary tourbillon, while the integrated bracelet gives the Sport Auto 79 a more continuous case-and-bracelet profile.

Laurent Ferrier says finishing takes place in its Geneva workshops and that finishing the rotor-bridge component alone requires two to three hours. That timing is the manufacturer’s account, not an independently documented production measure. Classic Tourbillon Teal: a return to the first creation
Announced on September 4, 2025, the Classic Tourbillon Teal – Série Atelier VII is Laurent Ferrier’s direct nod to the watch that began its independent story. The 41 mm case is 950 platinum, and the dial is teal grand feu enamel. The launch announcement specified five individually numbered watches and a price of CHF 195,000 excluding tax. The hand-wound LF619.01 calibre combines a tourbillon with two balance springs mounted in opposition. Laurent Ferrier states a power reserve of more than 80 hours. The maker explains that a tourbillon was conceived to counter gravity’s effect on a regulating organ in a vertically held pocket watch, while the two springs address lateral displacement of the balance staff. How to read the anniversary pairing
The watches are complementary interpretations, not a stated ranking of one over the other. The Sport Auto 79 looks outward to the founders’ racing history and offers an automatic micro-rotor movement in red gold with an integrated bracelet. The Classic Tourbillon Teal looks inward to the brand’s first watch, pairing a platinum case and enamel dial with a hand-wound tourbillon. Laurent Ferrier’s published material establishes their different histories and specifications; it does not establish a “best” choice or comparative performance result.
