Its Projekt 01 makes that idea visible: a sculptural dial built from hundreds of luminous pins, an industrial-textured die-cast steel case and restrained branding. The result is distinctive by design, though claims that it is unprecedented or disruptive are best understood as the company’s positioning and the feature writer’s assessment—not as a measured comparison of the whole watch market.
What is Kollokium?
Kollokium is a watch venture founded by Manuel Emch, Amr Sindi and Barth Nussbaumer, according to Russell Sheldrake’s Time+Tide feature published 28 June 2025. Sheldrake describes Emch’s experience with Jaquet Droz, Louis Erard, Raketa and Romain Jerome, Sindi’s collector profile as The Horophile, and Nussbaumer’s work in watch design. The founders shared interests in contemporary design, architecture, music and cinema, and a frustration with what they saw as conservative or derivative design in their price segment.
Sindi describes Kollokium as a projects-based platform rather than a conventional brand built around a recurring collection and inherited design language. The platform began in 2020; the first watch arrived at the end of 2023. That gap hints at the practical challenge of turning an unusual design into a production watch, rather than evidence of a rapid-release strategy. As Sindi put it in Sheldrake’s interview: “We started the project in 2020, and didn’t have anything to show until the very end of 2023.”
How does Kollokium’s approach differ from a conventional watch brand?
The distinction is about the structure of the creative project, not a claim that every other brand works the same way. A brand with a recurring collection often builds recognizability through a consistent design language and regular product additions. Kollokium instead presents itself as free to pursue different projects and collaborations without promising a yearly cadence or a legacy catalogue. That flexibility is the founders’ stated model; how much it will shape future watches remains a question for each project.

Sindi summed up the design ambition as creating “something that doesn’t look like any other watch past or present, yet is still very much wearable and low-key, at least from a distance.” The contrast is deliberate: at arm’s length, Projekt 01 can read as a restrained round watch; close up, its dial and case reveal a much more unusual construction.
What makes the Projekt 01 dial unusual?
Rather than relying on a conventional flat printed dial, Projekt 01 uses raised cylindrical luminous elements arranged across the dial. In the original F&F&F edition, the black dial had 468 hand-applied pins in six sizes, with Super-LumiNova-filled tips, according to Time+Tide and the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) record. The GPHG lists that initial edition at 99 pieces.
Later variants alter the treatment rather than simply repeating the first watch. Kollokium’s official Projekt 01 Variant F page describes Lichtblock, a ceramic-resin hybrid incorporating violet-emission Super-LumiNova. Its Variant H page describes cyan-blue luminous material and 488 cylindrical markers. The pins give the dial depth and a tactile, almost architectural quality; their changing sizes also make the luminous surface feel composed rather than like a uniform printed grid.

Kollokium compares the amount of luminous material in Variant F with that used on around 500 traditional dials. That is a comparison of material quantity, not a claim that the watch glows 500 times brighter. The company makes a similar nearly-500-dials comparison for Variant H.

Why is the case part of the design story?
Time+Tide and Kollokium describe the steel case as die-cast, with an intentionally industrial texture rather than a conventionally polished, finely finished appearance. The process and finish support the watch’s sculptural character: the case is not presented as a neutral frame for the dial, but as part of the visual statement.
Sindi and the company use language such as “anti-watchmaking” for this departure from familiar codes. That is a positioning choice, not an independently established industry-wide first. The available sources do not provide a market survey of case-making methods that would support a broader claim of uniqueness.

What movement does Projekt 01 use?
Projekt 01 uses the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic calibre, rather than a movement developed by Kollokium. Sheldrake’s feature frames the choice as concentrating the team’s effort on design and execution instead of creating an in-house calibre. That interpretation fits the project-platform idea: Kollokium’s strongest statement is the watch’s exterior and construction, not a proprietary movement.
For Variant H, Kollokium lists an approximately 68-hour power reserve. That figure belongs to the specified G101 in that product listing, not necessarily every future Kollokium project.

Projekt 01 has appeared in several editions. Their quantities and specifications should be read by reference, not combined into a single production total.

Sheldrake’s feature gives later-case dimensions as 40 mm by 11.95 mm, while the official Variant H listing gives 40.0 mm by 11.9 mm including the crystal. The GPHG’s smaller dimensions belong to the initial F&F&F record. These figures describe different references or source listings and should not be blended into one specification.

Availability depends on the edition and changes over time. In the captured listing, Kollokium’s Variant H page showed a 30 September 2026 public batch release date and a shipment window of 18 September to 28 October 2026, but it also displayed the watch as sold out. Those conflicting listing details are not a reliable indication of present stock; check the official product page or an authorized seller for current availability.
The same official site presents Projekt 02 as another interpretation of the wristwatch. Search results for its FFF&F edition said the introductory edition would first be offered to owners of the original Projekt 01 F&F and then to existing Kollokium watch owners, with a public variant planned for Q1 2026. Those are company-published plans, and the timing or access rules may have changed.

The GPHG record gives a historical VAT-inclusive price of CHF 2,667 for the initial Projekt 01 entry. It is not a current price quote, and price, tax treatment and stock need to be checked for the specific edition and buyer’s location.
Who is likely to appreciate Kollokium?
Projekt 01 is most compelling for someone who values unconventional industrial design and a highly dimensional luminous dial. It may be less persuasive to a buyer whose priorities are an in-house movement, traditional finishing, a long-established collection or a broadly available model. Kollokium’s difference is clearest when considered as a design-led project platform—not as a claim that it outperforms every watch brand on a single technical measure.
