What the owner’s post shows—and what it does not establish
The Reddit post presents a Takano Château with a dark, concentrically grooved centre. The author says the example has a hand-wound Calibre 531 with 21 jewels and pairs it with a turquoise strap. Those are the owner’s descriptions; the post is not independent authentication of the watch, its movement, or the strap.

“Vinyl-record dial” is a useful visual shorthand, but the available sources do not establish it as Takano’s official name for a dial treatment. Nor do they confirm that the pictured configuration was a standard production variant. The individual watch’s exact production date, originality, and authenticity remain unverified. Where the Château fits in Takano’s short history
Takano began making wristwatches under its own brand in 1957. The company’s official history says the Ise-wan Typhoon caused major damage to its factory in 1959. Takano released the Château in 1960, and the line included multiple movement versions; the official history identifies a 21-jewel Calibre 531 variation. This supports the movement family’s place in the Château range, but does not verify the movement inside the watch shown in the post. Takano’s official history also places the Chateau Nouvel release in 1961.

In 1962, management transferred to Riken Optical, now Ricoh, and the TAKANO brand ended. Ricoh Elemex recounts the transfer in its 80th-anniversary limited-watch company release. Takano’s official history quotes the 1958 Takano Report as saying, “TAKANO’s watches have brought to life what traditional watchmakers have long dreamed of.” In context, this was the company’s aspiration at the time, not a statement about the Château’s dial.
The revived Takano is a separate chapter
The current Takano site describes the Chateau Nouvel Chronometer as the first revived Takano model, led by Hajime Asaoka, and says it received Besançon Observatory certification. That modern revival is distinct from the vintage Château in the owner’s post; the available information does not say that the modern model reproduces its grooved dial. Is this Château exceptionally rare or valuable?
The owner’s post calls the watch “extreme rare,” but the available sources provide no production count or other independent measure of rarity for this dial configuration. They also do not establish a reliable market value for this exact variant. A rarity superlative or price estimate would therefore go beyond what is known.
