Rolex Certified Pre-Owned (RCPO) is a brand-run certification program for qualifying second-hand Rolex watches sold through participating Official Rolex Retailers. It is not a label for every used Rolex: the watch must be at least two years old, and Rolex says it returns to its workshops for authentication, servicing and testing. Buyers receive an RCPO guarantee card and a new two-year international guarantee.
What Rolex Certified Pre-Owned means
Rolex describes RCPO as a way to confirm the authenticity and functioning of qualifying second-hand watches at resale. The program applies only to watches sold through certain authorized points of sale in Rolex’s Official Retailer network. A pre-owned Rolex sold elsewhere—or by a retailer that does not participate—is not thereby an RCPO watch.

Rolex says qualifying watches are at least two years old and must be offered by an Official Retailer that has adhered to the program. The brand introduced the program at certain Bucherer points of sale in 2022 and says it has since expanded to other retailers in its worldwide network. Availability depends on the retailer and its inventory. Rolex’s May 2025 newsroom explanation outlines the program’s history and requirements.
How Rolex says certification works
Rolex says each RCPO watch returns to its workshops, where the watch is fully disassembled for inspection. The original configuration is rigorously verified, and components are checked and authenticated. Rolex says genuine replacement parts may be used to restore a watch to its original state, with the aim of preserving its integrity and history.

The watch is fully serviced and tested. Rolex describes the tests as equivalent to those its after-sales service conducts for newly purchased models, with conditions intended to simulate wear. The brand says RCPO watches perform like new, but makes an important qualification: the waterproofness and original precision of some of its oldest models are exceptions. That should not be read as a promise that every vintage model has modern water resistance or factory-new precision. Ask the seller about the particular watch’s condition and the terms in its guarantee documentation.

What comes with an RCPO watch
Rolex says every RCPO watch comes with a distinct seal and a guarantee card marked “Certified Pre-Owned.” The card attests to proper functioning and serves as the program’s official certificate of authentication. Rolex also lists a pouch, service booklet and official papers among the presentation materials.
Each watch receives a new two-year international guarantee beginning on its date of sale or purchase. Check the card and accompanying documentation with the retailer so you understand the coverage for the individual watch.

Where to find one
Rolex directs buyers to participating Official Retailers; not every Official Rolex Retailer carries RCPO watches, and participation does not guarantee a particular model is in stock. Use the Rolex retailer locator, then contact the retailer to confirm whether it participates and what it currently has available.
Bucherer identifies itself as an Official Rolex Retailer authorized to sell RCPO timepieces. Its US program page says its selection has been verified by Rolex and comes with a two-year international guarantee. How to compare an RCPO watch with another pre-owned Rolex
The official Rolex and Bucherer program information does not publish program-wide prices or quantify a price premium over non-certified watches. Compare like with like rather than assuming the RCPO label has a fixed monetary value. For the same reference, consider:
- Configuration and parts: Ask whether the watch remains in its original configuration and whether any components have been replaced.
- Condition and service: Review the watch’s condition and available service history, particularly for an older model.
- Included items: Confirm what box, papers and other materials accompany the watch; distinguish those items from the RCPO seal and card.
- Seller and guarantee: Verify that the seller is a participating Official Retailer and read the applicable guarantee documentation.
- Total price: Compare the full price of the specific examples, not a generalized claim about certified or non-certified watches.
Rolex says RCPO watches are available only through certain authorized points of sale. A marketplace listing or a retailer’s general claim that it sells pre-owned Rolex watches does not establish RCPO status; verify the watch and seller directly with a participating Official Retailer.
