Rolex’s 2024 release of the Deepsea reference 136668LB was the first version of the model presented in 18 ct yellow gold. It combines a 44 mm gold Oyster case and bracelet with a blue dial and bezel, while retaining the Deepsea’s manufacturer-rated depth of 3,900 metres (12,800 feet).
What is new about the yellow-gold Deepsea?
The defining change is the material: Rolex says this is the first Deepsea in 18 ct yellow gold. The 2024 announcement pairs the gold case and bracelet with a blue Cerachrom bezel insert and blue lacquer dial. The word “DEEPSEA” on the dial is rendered in powdered yellow, and the graduations on the unidirectional 60-minute bezel are coated with yellow gold by PVD. Rolex’s 2024 announcement also highlights the blue ceramic compression ring inside the case.
On Rolex’s US product page, the bracelet is described as a three-piece solid-link yellow-gold Oyster bracelet. The watch has a 44 mm Oyster case, a 5.5 mm-thick domed sapphire crystal, a helium escape valve, an Oysterlock safety clasp and Glidelock adjustment. How deep can the gold Rolex Deepsea go?
Rolex specifies water resistance to 3,900 metres (12,800 feet). That is the manufacturer’s rating for the watch; it is not a recommendation or depth limit for a diver. The Deepsea’s Ringlock case system is designed to withstand pressure at its rated depth. Rolex says the high-technology ceramic compression ring contributes to compression resistance and waterproofness, and describes the ceramic as resistant to deformation. How does the gold model fit into the Deepsea line?
Rolex says the Deepsea was released in 2008 and introduced the Ringlock system. The 2024 yellow-gold model brings that technical case architecture into a precious-metal exterior, while the blue ceramic compression ring adds a conspicuous color contrast within the case. The available specifications establish the gold model’s materials and features, but do not support a complete, current head-to-head comparison with every Oystersteel Deepsea variant.
