Which watch is reference IW504509?
IW504509 is the specific purple-dial configuration in IWC’s Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon family. What does the perpetual calendar show, and how does it work?
The calendar displays the date, day, month, and four-digit year, alongside a perpetual moon-phase indication. IWC says the calendar is mechanically programmed to account for months of different lengths and to add a leap day at the end of February every four years. The indications are synchronized, and IWC says they can be advanced together through the crown.

That programming is what distinguishes a perpetual calendar from a simple date display: it is designed to accommodate the recurring calendar pattern, including leap years, rather than needing routine correction at each short month. IWC credits watchmaker Kurt Klaus with developing its perpetual calendar in the 1980s.
The moon-phase display
IWC states that the moon-phase indication will deviate by one day after 577.5 years. This is the manufacturer’s stated figure for the display’s astronomical precision; it is not an independent test result.

What does the tourbillon do on this watch?
The flying minute tourbillon is positioned at 12 o’clock. IWC says its cage contains the balance wheel and escapement and completes one rotation per minute. The company specifies that the assembly comprises 82 parts and weighs 0.635 grams.

What movement powers IW504509?
The watch uses IWC’s automatic calibre 51950, which drives both the calendar and tourbillon. Its winding system is Pellaton winding. IWC lists a power reserve of 168 hours, or seven days, when fully wound.

How large is the platinum case, and what are the strap details?
IWC specifies a 45 mm case diameter and a height of 15.2 mm. It lists water resistance at 3 bar. The supplied strap is described as black alligator leather by Santoni.

The 22 mm strap width is a useful fit reference, but it does not by itself confirm compatibility with a particular replacement strap. End shape, attachment details, and hardware also need to match.
How does IW504509 fit into the collection, and what is known about availability?
IWC’s 15 January 2018 press release said the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Edition “150 Years” brought a perpetual calendar together with a tourbillon on the dial “for the first time ever.” That statement concerns the named 2018 edition; it is not the launch date of IW504509.
IWC states that IW504509 is limited to 50 pieces, but that edition size does not establish whether one is currently available or what it costs. The cited product information does not give a current price or stock status, so those details need confirmation from a current regional listing or seller.
