The white-dial, dark-subdial model this search usually points to is the Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph, reference SSC813 in Seiko’s U.S. catalog. Seiko’s Japan catalog for 2023 to 2024 lists the corresponding solar chronograph as SBDL085, so the code on the seller’s paperwork matters more than the dial color.
Start with the reference, not the dial
Dial colors are easy to copy and hard to judge from photos. The reference number is the anchor for everything else: the regional product page, the warranty terms, and the specifications you compare against. Ask the seller to state the reference in writing and check that it matches the number on the caseback or the paperwork.
On Seiko’s U.S. product page, the SSC813 is a Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph powered by Caliber V192. Seiko describes that movement as offering a 60-minute chronograph, a 24-hour subdial, and a power-reserve indicator that can be read at the touch of a button. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the caliber, and they are the features to confirm on any watch you consider.
Compare the specifications against the right regional page
Regional codes are not interchangeable labels. The U.S. page and the Japan catalog describe the same caliber family, but they publish different dimensional and water-resistance details, and not every field appears in both. The table below shows only what each Seiko source states.
#1 Best Overall
- Item shape: Round
- Power source type: Solar Powered
- Clasp type: Push Button Deployment Clasp
| Attribute | SSC813 (Seiko U.S. Speedtimer page, accessed 2026) | SBDL085 (Seiko Japan catalog, 2023 to 2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Caliber V192 solar | Caliber V192 |
| Chronograph and subdials | 60-minute chronograph, 24-hour subdial, power-reserve indicator (manufacturer’s description of V192) | Not stated in the catalog entry reviewed |
| Case diameter | 39 mm | 39.0 mm |
| Length and thickness | Not stated | 45.5 mm length, 13.3 mm thickness |
| Crystal | Curved sapphire | Curved sapphire |
| Dial finish | Sandblasted | Not stated |
| Water resistance | Not stated | 10 bar |
A listing that gives a different case diameter, crystal type, movement, or water-resistance rating than the page for the reference it names should be treated as a discrepancy to resolve before you buy. Do not transfer the Japan catalog’s 45.5 mm length or 10-bar rating onto a watch sold under the SSC813 reference unless the local page or seller confirms it. Local-market specifications are the ones that apply to your purchase.
Verify that the seller is authorized
Seller status determines whether you receive the service rights you expect. In a September 25, 2026 notice titled “Purchasing from Authorized Seiko Retailers,” Seiko Watch Corporation states: “By purchasing through authorized Seiko retailers, customers can be assured of receiving authentic Seiko products and have access to the support and services offered by Seiko.” The same notice warns that products from non-authorized sellers may not qualify for Seiko warranty or after-sales service.

Use Seiko’s local retailer locator to find the seller, or contact Seiko directly to confirm. The locator may not list every authorized seller, so a missing listing is a reason to ask questions, not proof that the seller is unauthorized. Ask the seller to name the authorized Seiko store or distributor that supplied the watch.
Watch for counterfeit, scam, and modified watches
In an October 6, 2025 Canadian notice, Seiko Watch Corporation said counterfeit watches, scam listings, and watches modified with unauthorized parts are appearing online. It added: “Neither counterfeit watches nor MOD watches are covered by our warranty or quality assurance.”

Check the warranty documentation
What is warranted during the warranty period?
Seiko’s U.S. warranty FAQ, titled “What is warranted during the warranty period?”, is the reference for coverage in that market. Coverage depends on the country and the seller, so confirm the duration and scope that apply where you live and where the watch was bought. Do not assume that an overseas or marketplace purchase carries the same service rights as a purchase from an authorized local retailer.

Where can I get a warranty card for my watch?
Seiko’s U.S. FAQ, titled “Where can I get a warranty card for my watch?”, says the retailer provides the warranty card, and the card must be presented for warranty service. Missing or altered information on the card can affect coverage. Ask the seller for the original card, check that it carries the store and purchase information, and keep the receipt with it. A seller who cannot supply the card should be a deal-breaker for a new watch.

For a used watch, ask the seller to disclose any repairs, replacement parts, or modifications in writing. Seiko states that it does not authorize MOD watches, and it excludes counterfeit and modified watches from warranty and quality assurance. A watch with a non-factory bracelet, dial, crystal, or movement may still be a genuine Seiko, but it no longer matches the reference, and the warranty may not apply. Get the return terms in writing before you pay.

- MOVEMENT – Quartz chronograph format.
- DIAL – Blue dial design.
- MODEL REFERENCE – SSB427 identifies the watch.
- WATCH DIAMETER – 41.5 mm.
Check fit before you commit
The 39 mm case diameter on Seiko’s U.S. page and the 39.0 mm width in the Japan catalog are the same measurement in different units, but case diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears. The 45.5 mm length and 13.3 mm thickness listed for SBDL085 matter more for lug reach and height on the wrist. If you can, try the watch on, or check the seller’s measurements against the regional specification page before you buy.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Confirm the reference on the watch, the paperwork, and the listing, and match it to the correct regional page.
- Compare case size, thickness, crystal, movement, bracelet, and water-resistance claims with that page.
- Confirm the seller is authorized through Seiko’s locator or by contacting Seiko.
- Request clear photos of the dial, caseback, clasp, and warranty card, and treat them as supporting evidence, not proof.
- Confirm the warranty country, duration, and card details, and keep the receipt.
- For used watches, get a written statement of repairs, parts, and modifications, plus return terms.
- Check fit where possible before paying.
A newer panda-dial release to check
Seiko’s official news item dated October 6, 2026 describes a power design project watch as the “most literal take on the popular panda chronograph dial.” That item does not yet give a model number, movement, full specifications, price, or availability by country. Until Seiko publishes a full product page for it, treat it as unverified and do not compare it directly with the SSC813.
