If your G-SHOCK buttons stop responding, first identify the watch’s module number and follow that model’s Casio operation guide. A button lock, low battery or charge recovery, and temporary high-speed hand movement can all make controls unavailable on specific models. If the model-specific checks do not help—or a button appears damaged—contact the original retailer or an authorized Casio service center.
Find the module number and the right Casio guide
G-SHOCK button functions and recovery procedures vary by model, so do not assume a shortcut or reset applies to every watch. Find the model and module information on the case back, then open the matching Casio support page or operation guide. For example, Casio’s GA-010-1A1 support page provides links to that model’s operation guide, repair information, and inquiry options.

Some G-SHOCK models have a feature that intentionally disables buttons to prevent accidental operation. In Module 5366, button lock works in Timekeeping Mode, while the B (light) button remains enabled. To unlock that module, press D and C at the same time. Check your own module’s guide before trying this: D + C is not a universal G-SHOCK unlock procedure.

If the hands or display have stopped, check power
Charge recovery on Module 5713
Casio’s troubleshooting guide for Module 5713 says stopped hands and nonworking buttons can indicate a dead battery. If the watch is in charge recovery mode, wait about 15 minutes for recovery; Casio says a brightly lit location can speed the process. Follow the guide for your watch rather than treating that wait time as a general rule for all G-SHOCK models.

Battery replacement on Modules 5554 and 5555
For Modules 5554 and 5555, Casio identifies all hands stopped together with unresponsive buttons as a dead-battery indication and directs owners to arrange battery replacement through the original retailer or an authorized Casio service center. On these modules, a flashing [R] indicator can disable all functions except timekeeping. If it persists or returns, Casio says battery replacement may be needed.

If the hands are moving rapidly, wait for them to stop
On Module 5733, some button operations are unavailable while the hands move at high speed after certain setting changes. Wait until the hands stop, then try the buttons again. Casio’s instructions describe this behavior for that module; consult your own guide if the watch is a different model.

When to contact Casio service
Contact the original retailer or an authorized Casio service center if the controls remain unresponsive after you have checked your module’s instructions, if a button looks damaged, or if a documented power or charge issue does not clear. Do not pry open the case or use improvised tools: the cited Casio guidance directs owners to service for battery replacement rather than a do-it-yourself case repair.
Do not use a factory reset as a generic button fix
A reset is not a first-line fix for physical button failure. Casio’s Module 3486 reset procedure returns specified settings and data to defaults and removes phone-pairing information; it is specific to that module. Only use a reset if your exact operation guide calls for it and you understand what will be cleared.
