The GA-B2100 adds two major features to the familiar octagonal G-Shock design: Tough Solar charging and Bluetooth Smartphone Link. Compared with the GA-2100, those updates reduce reliance on routine battery replacement and let the watch connect to Casio’s CASIO WATCHES app for time adjustment and settings. The core look and key G-Shock functions remain.
What changed from the GA-2100?
Casio released the GA-2100 in 2019. Announced on April 14, 2022, the GA-B2100 became the first model in the 2100 line to combine Bluetooth Smartphone Link with solar charging, according to Casio’s launch announcement.
| Feature | GA-2100 | GA-B2100 |
|---|---|---|
| Power | Battery-powered; the cited GA-B2100 sources do not specify the GA-2100 battery details. | Tough Solar; Casio says the system converts light, including fluorescent light, into power. |
| Phone connection | No Bluetooth Smartphone Link is identified in the cited materials. | Bluetooth Smartphone Link connects to the CASIO WATCHES app for automatic time adjustment and watch settings. |
| Design and core functions | Part of the 2100 line’s octagonal design family. | Retains the octagonal design and key G-Shock functions, including shock resistance and 20-bar water resistance. |
Casio presents the update as added power and connectivity, not a redesign of the line’s defining shape. The sources do not establish current comparative retail prices or independent usability results, so whether the GA-B2100 is worth the difference depends on the price and whether you will use its new features.
How Tough Solar changes battery upkeep
The GA-B2100 uses Casio’s Tough Solar system, which converts light into power. Casio says it can use fluorescent light as well as sunlight, reducing the need for regular battery replacement. That description does not mean the watch never needs charging or other power-related attention; the cited materials do not establish a measured runtime or charging interval.
