Most Garmin watch use does not require a paid Garmin Connect+ subscription. A Garmin Connect account and Connect+ are different: Garmin requires an account for Garmin Connect and many device features, while Connect+ is its premium tier. Garmin explicitly says Live Activity and Nutrition require Connect+, along with a compatible device. Availability varies by watch and region.
Garmin Connect account vs. Garmin Connect+
A Garmin Connect account provides access to Garmin Connect and many features used with Garmin devices. That account requirement does not mean you must pay for Connect+. Garmin describes Connect+ as a premium subscription tier, with additional features and enhancements. Garmin’s account and subscription overview distinguishes the service from ordinary account access.

Garmin’s French-Belgian overview says existing Garmin Connect features will not become paid, while premium enhancements may be added to existing features. That statement is from a localized page and should not be treated as a guarantee of identical terms in every region. Garmin’s French-Belgian Connect+ page

- Identify the exact feature. Confirm whether you want a Connect+ feature such as Live Activity or Nutrition, rather than general Garmin Connect account access.
- Check Garmin’s feature support page. Look for the stated subscription requirement, compatible devices, and software requirements. For Nutrition, for example, Garmin specifies a compatible watch with the latest software.
- Verify regional availability. Garmin says Connect+ feature availability can vary by region as well as device.
- Review the current subscription terms. Garmin’s overview describes a 30-day free trial and directs subscribers to its Subscription Management Center. Trial and billing terms may depend on location or account, so confirm the terms shown at checkout. Garmin Connect+ overview
What happens if you cancel Connect+?
Garmin explicitly says Live Activity access is no longer available after a subscription expires. The sources cited here do not establish what cancellation means for access to every other premium feature or for data associated with those features, so check the relevant feature information before relying on continued access.
