Rolex announced Jean-Frédéric Dufour as its incoming chief executive on 14 April 2014, when he was CEO of Zenith. He took over leadership of Rolex in June 2015. The “new CEO” framing is historical, not a current appointment: Rolex’s published history confirms the succession but does not establish whether Dufour still holds the role today.
When did Jean-Frédéric Dufour become Rolex CEO?
The announcement and the transition were more than a year apart. On 14 April 2014, Rolex confirmed Dufour’s move from Zenith to take over the direction of Rolex SA, but said the transfer date had yet to be determined and would be agreed with the company’s then-CEO, Gian Riccardo Marini. WatchTime reported the announcement and reproduced Rolex’s statement.

Rolex’s company history dates Dufour’s assumption of leadership to June 2015 and describes him as the brand’s sixth CEO. That is the date to use when asking when he took up the role, rather than the April 2014 announcement date. Rolex’s official history
Who is Jean-Frédéric Dufour?
Dufour is a Swiss watch-industry executive whose career spans commercial and industrial economics, banking, and senior roles in watchmaking. Rolex says he graduated in Commercial and Industrial Science/Economics from the University of Geneva, worked in banking in Hong Kong, and then returned to Switzerland. The company credits his subsequent career with experience in watch sales, production, marketing, and product development. Rolex’s official history

Contemporary coverage adds detail to that summary: Hodinkee reported in 2014 that Dufour joined Zenith in 2009 after working at Blancpain, Chopard, and Ulysse Nardin. That employer list comes from the publication’s reporting; Rolex’s history does not name those companies.
What did Rolex say his role would be?
Rolex’s history says Dufour sought to reinforce the brand’s worldwide status and carry forward a legacy that combines tradition, prestige, and technology. This is the company’s description of his aims, not an independent assessment of results or proof that he personally directed particular products.

What was happening at Rolex around the transition?
Rolex’s timeline places two technical milestones near the leadership change. In 2014, the company unveiled calibre 2236, which features its in-house-developed Syloxi silicon hairspring. In 2015, Rolex introduced calibre 3255 in the Day-Date 40. Rolex reported an approximately 70-hour power reserve for calibre 3255—24 hours, or 50 per cent, more than the preceding generation. These are company-reported product developments of the period; the timeline does not attribute them to Dufour personally. Rolex’s official timeline
Is Dufour still Rolex’s CEO?
The available official Rolex history confirms that Dufour assumed leadership in June 2015, but it does not confirm his current tenure. Without a current authoritative leadership statement, it is more accurate to describe him as the CEO who succeeded Marini in 2015 than to present “new CEO” as a current announcement.
