If a tennis stream buffers, freezes, shows a blank screen or will not start, first identify whether the problem is the connection, the device or app, or your access to that match. Refresh the player, check connection stability, confirm your device is supported, and verify that your account can watch the event. The exact requirements vary by streaming service.
Start with the symptom
Note what happens and whether it affects one match or all video on the service. A stream that never starts may point to a different issue than one that plays briefly and then freezes.

- It will not start: check that you are signed in and entitled to watch the match, then reopen the player.
- It buffers or freezes repeatedly: check connection stability and reduce competing activity on your device or network.
- The screen is blank: refresh the page or reopen the app; if possible, try another supported browser or device.
- You see an access or account error: confirm your subscription or TV-provider access covers the event.
These are troubleshooting categories, not standard error messages shared by every tennis service.
Work through these fixes in order
1. Refresh or reopen the player
Refresh the browser page, or close and reopen the app. ESPN recommends refreshing or reopening a browser when playback stalls, stops or plays slowly. On a computer, close other applications that may be running at the same time.

2. Check connection stability
Make sure your internet connection is stable. Tennis Channel advises viewers to use a strong, stable connection. If your connection seems congested, ESPN suggests waiting several minutes and trying again.
A speed test can help diagnose a connection, but a single result is not a universal pass-or-fail threshold. Compare it with the requirements published by the service and for the video format you are watching.

3. Update and isolate the device or app
Check that your device, browser and streaming app are up to date. Tennis Channel lists having the latest device, browser or app version among its troubleshooting pre-checks. If available, try another supported browser or device: if the stream works there, the issue may be specific to your original setup.
4. Check account access and match availability
Confirm that you are logged in and that your subscription or TV-provider entitlement includes the match. For example, Tennis TV says Premium is required for live matches, while some highlights and features are available free to registered viewers. Match rights and geographic availability vary by provider and event, so check the service’s information for the specific match.

5. Contact the provider if the problem continues
When contacting support, provide the service or app name, device and operating-system version, browser version if relevant, match or event, approximate time, exact error text and whether other video plays. Include the steps you have already tried. ESPN directs customers with persistent issues to Customer Care and mobile users to Contact Support in the app.
Connection-speed guidance depends on the service
ESPN’s support recommendation, updated August 20, 2025, is at least 5.0 Mbps for HD and 25.0 Mbps for 4K UHD. These are ESPN’s recommendations for its service, not universal minimums for every tennis broadcaster. Tennis Channel’s troubleshooting overview calls for a strong, stable connection but does not state a numeric speed threshold.

WTA TV’s device guidance, modified January 31, 2023, states “minimum of 1MB” and ping below “100m/s.” Because the units and guidance are dated, do not treat those figures as a current general benchmark or reinterpret them; check the provider’s current requirements instead.
Confirm that your device is supported
Compatibility is service-specific. Tennis TV’s device list, checked October 12, 2026, gives these examples of supported devices and minimums:

Tennis TV recommends the latest mobile or tablet app. It also says viewing through a mobile or tablet browser and casting with Chromecast or AirPlay are available. These requirements apply to Tennis TV, not to other services; check the current compatibility list for the provider you use.
When a wired connection might help
If your own checks point to unstable Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection may be worth considering only if your viewing device supports it. Confirm that the device has an Ethernet port or a compatible adapter and that your network layout allows a practical wired connection. A cable cannot fix a provider outage, unsupported hardware, missing account access or a match that is unavailable in your location.
