I bought my two-tone Ebel Sport Classic Chronograph, reference 1134901, because it brought together the things I wanted in one watch: an El Primero connection, a distinctive design, and a wave bracelet that felt unusually comfortable. The purchase followed a few false starts, and owning it involved a service and a bracelet-fit lesson. This is my account of that watch—not a claim that every Sport Classic Chronograph is the same.
What drew me to the Ebel Sport Classic Chronograph
I had wanted a good Sport Classic Chronograph for a long time, preferably in gold or two-tone. Earlier chances did not work out; one watch I considered was not functioning and was in poor condition. Then I saw a local listing, contacted the seller, and bought reference 1134901.
Three things made this particular watch compelling to me: its high-beat Zenith movement, its design, and its association with Miami Vice. I was also drawn to the wave bracelet. On my example, the case is steel with a gold bezel and gold details, giving it the two-tone character I had been seeking.
Why the movement mattered—and why the reference matters
The Sport Classique line began in 1977, while Phillips dates the chronograph’s introduction to 1982. Phillips describes Ebel turning to Zenith for El Primero chronograph movements; its collector guide identifies the early Sport Classic Chronograph movement as Ebel calibre 134, running at 5 Hz. Those early calibre 134 movements were likely new-old-stock Zenith 3019PHC examples, but that origin is not certain. Movement names and transitions can be confusing. Fratello says the first batch used the Zenith 3019PHC, that Zenith restarted El Primero production with calibre 40.0 in 1986, and that Ebel later used Zenith calibre 400. It also describes a later move to a Lemania 1350-based calibre 137 for the 1911 Chronograph. The names Sport Classic and 1911 alone do not establish which movement is inside a particular watch; check the exact reference and movement evidence. Fratello’s account of Ebel’s chronograph movements explains some of those transitions.
Phillips’ records illustrate why it is worth checking each watch separately: it documents a circa-1986 reference 8134901 with calibre 134 and a yellow-gold wave bracelet, and a 1993 example of that reference with automatic calibre 400, a 38 mm case, and a blue mother-of-pearl dial with diamond indexes. Reference, date, calibre, materials, dial, and bracelet can all vary. Phillips’ guide and catalogued examples show those differences.

How my watch wears
My watch measures 38 mm across, 11 mm thick, and 42 mm from lug to lug. Its wave bracelet tapers from 20 mm to 15 mm. I find the bracelet thin and comfortable; its two-piece construction and seatbelt-like clasp are part of what makes the watch feel distinctive on the wrist. These are observations about my example, not dimensions or fit guarantees for every related reference.
Service and bracelet fit were part of ownership
I had the watch serviced by a watchmaker who specializes in El Primero movements, and replaced its deeply scratched sapphire crystal. The original bracelet was missing links and showed stretch, so I tried another bracelet. Its end links did not connect well with the case, and I returned to the original. That experience made completeness and correct fit more than cosmetic details: they affect whether the watch can be worn as intended.

For a vintage example, I would check the calibre and reference, condition of the case, dial, and movement, service documentation, and the bracelet’s originality, stretch, link count, and end-link fit. Also establish what is included, and understand the seller’s return and authentication terms. My experience does not establish a general defect or the availability of replacement parts.
Ebel’s official site provides warranty, user-guide, care, and after-sales service resources, but the page does not confirm that a particular vintage reference or calibre will be accepted in every market. Ask Ebel directly about the watch in question before relying on a service route. Ebel after-sales service.

How the vintage watch compares with Ebel’s 2026 reissue
Ebel’s 115th-anniversary Sport Classic Chronograph reissue keeps recognizable design cues but changes the scale and movement architecture. Fratello’s report published October 7, 2026 describes four variants, each limited to 115 pieces: two steel models with white or blue dials, and two steel-and-gold models. It reports a 40 mm case, 11.6 mm thickness, 44.5 mm lug-to-lug, and 50 m water resistance. The reported movement is a Sellita SW300-1 base with a Dubois Dépraz DD2222 chronograph module, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve. Fratello’s October 7, 2026 report on the anniversary editions is the source for those specifications.

The new editions retain details such as bezel screws, pusher style, a three-register dial, and date placement, but the case is larger and rounder. The reissue’s modular chronograph architecture is not the integrated El Primero movement architecture that attracted me to the vintage watch. WatchTime independently reports an anniversary model with a 40 mm case, 11.6 mm thickness, 5 bar (50 m) water resistance, and a DD2222 automatic chronograph calibre. Its coverage did not list frequency, power reserve, or pricing; those figures above are specifically attributed to Fratello’s later report. WatchTime’s 2026 report.

What I would check before buying one
- Confirm the exact reference and identify the calibre from reliable movement evidence; do not infer it from the model name alone.
- Inspect the case, dial, and movement, and ask for service documentation and a clear account of known work.
- Check whether the bracelet is original, how many links are included, whether it has stretch, and whether the end links fit the case correctly.
- Review what is included and the seller’s authentication and return terms.
- Do not assume an asking price or auction result represents the value of another example: configuration and condition differ, and the sources cited here do not establish a market-wide price range.
