A Samsung product specialist said the Classic followed a two-year release cycle, while the new Galaxy Watch Ultra took the premium, performance-focused role associated with the Pro range. Samsung did not say Ultra was a renamed Pro or a direct successor.
Why wasn’t there a Galaxy Watch7 Classic?
Lee Dinham, a Samsung Mobile Experience Product Specialist, told Tech Advisor on July 10, 2024 that Samsung’s Classic model followed a two-year cycle. Samsung also said it would keep the Galaxy Watch6 Classic on sale to serve people who wanted that traditional design and rotating bezel while the lineup moved on to Watch7.
The release history fits that explanation: Samsung lists the Watch4 Classic in 2021, Watch6 Classic in 2023 and Watch8 Classic in 2025. The pattern explains why a Classic did not appear alongside Watch7, but it should not be read as a promise that every future Classic will arrive on a fixed schedule.
Why wasn’t there a Galaxy Watch7 Pro?
Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra alongside Watch7 in 2024, positioning Ultra as its most capable watch and a premium option designed for demanding activity. Dinham described Ultra as the performance-focused choice in the range. That gives Ultra a role similar to the outdoor-oriented Pro, but Samsung did not announce a Watch7 Pro, formally rename Pro to Ultra, or call Ultra a direct successor to the Watch5 Pro.

Samsung’s current US model guide describes the Pro range as outdoor-oriented and identifies Watch5 Pro, released in 2022, as its last model. It presents Ultra as a more capable continuation of the direction Pro began; that is Samsung’s retrospective description, not evidence that a Watch7 Pro was planned and cancelled.
What Samsung launched instead in 2024
On July 10, 2024, Samsung announced Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. Watch7 was positioned around everyday wellness; Ultra was presented as the more rugged, high-performance option. Samsung’s July 24 global-availability announcement listed Watch7 in 40mm and 44mm sizes and Ultra in 47mm.

Which one makes sense if you wanted Classic or Pro?
If you wanted the rotating bezel
The Watch6 Classic was Samsung’s stated option for Classic buyers during the Watch7 launch cycle. It is a previous-generation model, not a Watch7 Classic. Whether it is still available, and at what price, depends on region and retailer.
If you wanted the Pro-style outdoor watch
Ultra is the closest match in positioning among the 2024 models: Samsung framed it as its premium, high-performance outdoor watch. It is a distinct product, however, and the available statements do not establish that it is simply a Pro under another name.

If you wanted a standard Watch7
Watch7 is the straightforward choice for Samsung’s standard 2024 smartwatch line. Its launch sizes were 40mm and 44mm; choose based on fit and preference rather than expecting a Classic bezel or Ultra’s outdoor positioning.

Samsung’s US model guide lists Watch7 and Ultra in 2024, followed by Watch8 and Watch8 Classic in 2025; it lists no Watch7 Classic or Watch7 Pro. That is manufacturer-published model history, not a guarantee of retail inventory in every country. Samsung’s explanation for omitting Classic was its two-year cadence; for Pro, the evidence supports a similar-role Ultra, not an official renaming.
