If your Timex backlight or INDIGLO night-light will not turn on, first check the watch’s exact model and its manual. Timex watches do not all use the same activation control, battery, or light behavior. Confirm the correct button or crown action, test in darkness if your model has a light sensor, and check whether its manual says low battery disables INDIGLO before attempting a battery change.
1. Identify the watch and its instructions
Find the model name or product number on the watch or case back, then search for it in Timex’s official manual finder. A guide for another Timex may describe different controls, light behavior, and battery requirements.

Use the model-specific instructions for troubleshooting. The examples below illustrate why this matters; they are not universal instructions for every Timex.
2. Check how your model turns on the light
Look in the manual for the INDIGLO or night-light instructions. Depending on the model, activation may use a dedicated INDIGLO button or a press on the crown. Some watches also offer Night-Mode, which lets another button press activate the light after the mode is enabled.

- The W263 Trail Mate manual says to press the INDIGLO button to activate the night-light for several seconds.
- The M329 guide describes turning on INDIGLO by pressing the crown.
- For W263 and W240 watches, the manuals describe Night-Mode turning off automatically after eight hours.
These controls and timings apply to the named watch families only. Follow your own model’s guide rather than trying button combinations from a different Timex.
3. Test in a dark place if your model has a light sensor
Some watches use an ambient-light sensor that can prevent the night-light from turning on when the surroundings are bright. Timex’s Run x50+ FAQ describes this behavior for that model and recommends testing in a darker location. It is not evidence that every Timex has a sensor.

4. Check whether low battery can disable INDIGLO
On some models, low battery can stop the light from working. Timex’s iQ+ Move guide says its INDIGLO night-light will not function until the battery has been replaced when power is low. The M329 guide describes similar behavior for that model family.

Check your watch for a low-battery indicator and consult its manual before buying a replacement. A light that fails is not, by itself, proof that the battery is low, and replacing a battery is not guaranteed to fix every backlight problem.

5. Use the correct battery and replacement guidance
Battery types vary among Timex models. A W240 manual says the battery type is listed on the watch back and recommends having a retailer or jeweler replace it. It also notes that an internal reset switch may be present after replacement. That model-specific note is not a general instruction to open the case or operate an internal switch on other watches.
If you choose replacement, verify the exact battery type and follow the instructions for your model. When the manual recommends professional replacement, or you are unsure how to proceed, take the watch to a retailer or jeweler.

6. When to seek repair help
If the light still does not work after you have confirmed the correct control, tested under suitable lighting, and addressed a low-battery condition specified by your manual, contact Timex support or a watch repair provider with the model number. The cited Timex guidance does not establish one internal repair procedure for all watches, so do not treat opening the case or manipulating an internal reset as universal DIY troubleshooting.
