The Xiaomi Watch 5 is a China-launched Wear OS smartwatch built around a dual-chip architecture, a 930mAh battery, ECG hardware and EMG-assisted gesture controls. Xiaomi announced the standard model at RMB 1,999 and the eSIM version at RMB 2,299 on December 25, 2025. However, the eSIM edition, ECG, cellular activation and even some Google services may depend on the market and regional model.

What is the Xiaomi Watch 5?

Xiaomi Watch 5 launched in China on December 25, 2025, alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra at the company’s imaging-strategy event. Xiaomi announced two versions:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Xiaomi Watch 5: from RMB 1,999
  • Xiaomi Watch 5 eSIM: RMB 2,299

Those are Chinese launch prices, not confirmed US prices or a reliable indication of what the watch will cost in every international market. Xiaomi has since published global product pages for a Wear OS version, but availability and specifications still need to be checked by country.

The main reason to pay attention is the combination of a large battery and Wear OS. The Watch 5 pairs a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor with a BES2800BP low-power chip. Xiaomi says the watch can switch workloads between the chips to balance responsiveness and endurance.

  • Two year warranty against factory defects.

That architecture could make the Watch 5 a compelling Android option for buyers who dislike charging a Wear OS watch every day. Its ECG and EMG gesture features are also unusual, although both require careful interpretation: ECG availability is regional, while gestures depend heavily on software, screen context and setup.

Read Xiaomi’s launch announcement and check the global product page for regional specifications.

How the dual-chip design works

The Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 is the performance-focused processor. It handles Wear OS, applications and demanding smartwatch tasks. The BES2800BP is intended for lower-power duties, such as background activity and efficiency-oriented processing.

This is not necessarily the same as having two equal application processors. The practical idea is that the watch does not need to run the more power-hungry Snapdragon chip for every task. Xiaomi describes intelligent switching between the chips so the Watch 5 can retain a full smartwatch platform while reducing energy use during lighter workloads.

For users, the potential benefits are straightforward: longer battery life, less frequent charging and a Wear OS experience that should remain more capable than a basic proprietary fitness-watch platform. But dual-chip hardware alone does not prove that the Watch 5 is faster or more efficient than every rival. That requires consistent independent testing across comparable settings.

Battery life: up to six days, but not in every setup

Xiaomi rates the Watch 5 for:

Mode Xiaomi’s stated maximum
Smart or Performance mode Up to 6 days
Smart or Performance mode with always-on display in the cited test Up to 4 days
Power-saving mode Up to 18 days

The battery capacity is 930mAh. Xiaomi’s six-day test included demanding functions such as high-precision sleep monitoring, all-day stress and blood-oxygen monitoring, heart-health monitoring, notifications, NFC payments, Bluetooth calls, local music playback and GNSS exercise recording.

The 18-day figure uses power-saving mode and reduced monitoring conditions, so it should not be compared directly with normal Wear OS use. Always-on display, GPS, LTE or eSIM use, calls, music playback, frequent notifications, high sensor sampling and weak cellular signal can all reduce runtime.

In other words, the dual-chip design matters primarily because it may deliver better endurance than many full-featured Wear OS watches. “Up to six days” remains a controlled manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee of six days for every owner or configuration. Independent review testing should be treated separately from Xiaomi’s official rating; Wareable’s review provides additional testing context.

Design and display

The Watch 5 has a 47mm case and a 1.54-inch AMOLED display with 480 × 480 resolution. Xiaomi lists up to 1,500 nits of high-brightness mode, a 60Hz refresh rate and a narrow 2.6mm bezel.

The case uses 316L stainless steel and the display is protected by dual-sided sapphire crystal glass. Xiaomi describes the sapphire as having Mohs hardness of 9, although scratch resistance does not make the watch indestructible against impacts or damage to the case.

The global product page lists Black and Juniper Green finishes. Xiaomi also highlighted a 3D-printed titanium strap weighing 43g in its launch presentation. That figure refers to the strap presentation and should not automatically be read as the complete watch’s weight.

ECG: useful heart-rhythm support, not a diagnosis

The Watch 5 includes ECG capability on at least some regional editions. Its ECG hardware and app record electrical heart activity, and Xiaomi says the report is intended to help identify sinus rhythm and atrial fibrillation in adults.

Xiaomi’s Malaysia product page references CE certification under EU MDR 2017/745. That is a regional claim, not proof that the ECG feature is approved or enabled in every country. Availability can depend on the watch’s region, software, certification status, local medical-device rules and the specific model.

The manufacturer also makes important limitations clear:

  • An ECG result is diagnostic support, not a definitive medical diagnosis.
  • A sinus-rhythm result does not guarantee that no arrhythmia or other health problem is present.
  • Users should not change medication or treatment based only on the watch.
  • The feature is not intended for people under 18 or certain users with known cardiac arrhythmias.

Do not buy an imported Watch 5 solely for ECG without confirming that the feature is legally and technically available in your country. If you have symptoms or medical concerns, seek professional medical advice rather than relying on a wearable reading.

How EMG gesture control works

EMG stands for electromyography: sensing electrical signals associated with muscle activity. On the Watch 5, Xiaomi combines EMG with PPG and IMU motion sensors to recognize certain finger and hand movements.

Advertised gestures include:

  • Double pinch to answer or end a call
  • Double pinch to snooze an alarm
  • Double rub to turn off an alarm
  • Double pinch to take a remote photo
  • Double pinch to start or stop a timer
  • Finger snap to start a workout
  • Double wrist shake to open or control assigned apps such as Alarm, Stopwatch, Weather or World Clock

Custom gestures can launch selected apps, start workouts or control connected smart-home devices. Xiaomi says supported pages display a floating bubble or blue dot. The user must generally keep the forearm parallel to the chest and the watch face facing upward while activating the gesture.

  • 150+ workout modes for a healthy training Experience sports modes like running, walking, and cycling. Follow the instructions to warm up* and get into the workout zone faster. Plus, join our pro running courses!

Gesture control is not universal. Xiaomi’s product-page notes say the watch needs the relevant gesture controls and tilt-to-wake settings enabled, and gestures may not operate during sleep, Do Not Disturb, always-on display or when sleep is detected. They are also limited to compatible screens and may change with firmware updates.

Some Smart Hub functions require a Xiaomi phone or tablet running HyperOS 3, the latest Mi Fitness app and Xiaomi Home version 10.4 or above. That makes the feature more interesting for Xiaomi-device owners, but less compelling as a standalone reason for everyone else to buy the watch.

eSIM and standalone connectivity

The Chinese launch included a separate eSIM edition at a RMB 300 premium over the standard model. In principle, eSIM connectivity can let the watch make calls or use mobile data without the phone being nearby.

In practice, activation depends on the exact regional model, supported cellular bands, carrier compatibility, eSIM provisioning, account requirements and local regulatory approval. The existence of a Chinese eSIM model does not mean it will activate on a US carrier or work as expected outside China.

The global product pages confirm that features can vary by region, but the available official material does not establish universal global eSIM availability, a carrier list or a US retail route. Before importing one, verify:

  • Carrier and cellular-band compatibility
  • Whether the carrier supports smartwatch eSIM plans
  • Google services and app-store access
  • Language and firmware-region restrictions
  • NFC and payment support
  • Warranty coverage
  • ECG and other health-feature availability

An imported Chinese model may be genuine and still be a poor fit for a buyer whose carrier, payments or required apps are unsupported.

Wear OS compatibility and Google services

The global Xiaomi Watch 5 page identifies the watch as running Wear OS by Google and advertises Google Play, Gemini, Google Maps, Google Calendar and Google Wallet.

The compatibility requirement is Android 8.0 or later. iPhone users cannot use the Xiaomi Watch 5 because iOS is not supported. This is a major distinction from some Xiaomi fitness watches that work with both Android and iPhone through Mi Fitness.

Google Play, Gemini, Maps, Calendar and Wallet availability can vary by country, device, account and setup requirements. Android compatibility also does not mean every Google or Xiaomi feature will work on every Android phone.

Health, fitness and navigation features

Beyond ECG, Xiaomi advertises all-day heart-rate monitoring, blood-oxygen monitoring, stress tracking, sleep management, women’s health tracking and a one-tap health assessment. The watch supports more than 150 sports modes.

For outdoor activity, Xiaomi lists dual-frequency L1+L5 GNSS, offline vector maps, route navigation, track-back navigation and route-deviation alerts. It also supports Health Connect data transfer.

These are advertised capabilities rather than independent accuracy results. Xiaomi states that the watch is not intended to diagnose, prevent, cure or predict disease. Sensor readings can be affected by fit, movement, skin contact, exercise conditions and other factors.

Who should consider the Xiaomi Watch 5?

The Watch 5 is most attractive to an Android user who wants a full Wear OS smartwatch without accepting typical daily charging. The large battery, sapphire crystal, stainless-steel case, offline maps, dual-frequency GNSS and Google app support give it a broader smartwatch role than a basic activity tracker.

It is particularly worth considering if you use a recent Xiaomi phone and can buy an officially supported regional version. Xiaomi ecosystem features, including some Smart Hub controls, may be more useful in that setup.

Who should hesitate?

  • iPhone owners: iOS is unsupported, so an Apple Watch is the more natural choice.
  • US buyers seeking cellular service: the reviewed official sources do not confirm a US eSIM model, price or carrier path.
  • ECG-first buyers: ECG availability and regulatory status vary, and the feature is not a substitute for medical evaluation.
  • Import shoppers: Chinese models may have limitations involving language, firmware, warranty, payments, Google services and cellular activation.
  • Buyers expecting six days regardless of settings: AOD, GPS, calls, music, LTE and intensive monitoring can materially reduce endurance.
  • Anyone expecting flawless gesture control: EMG gestures are context-sensitive and require the correct settings, motion and supported software.

Xiaomi Watch 5 versus the alternatives

The Google Pixel Watch is the more obvious choice for users prioritizing Google’s own hardware and health ecosystem, although Xiaomi’s battery claim is substantially more ambitious. Samsung Galaxy Watch models offer strong integration for Samsung phone owners and broad Android support, with health features varying by model and region. The OnePlus Watch is another battery-focused Wear OS alternative. Apple Watch remains the strongest mainstream option for iPhone owners, but it is not compatible with the Xiaomi Watch 5.

Current competitor pricing and availability should be checked separately because they change by country and model. The more important comparison is practical: Xiaomi’s strongest argument is endurance and hardware value, while rivals may offer more established regional support, health ecosystems or carrier compatibility.

Availability and buying advice by region

Market or situation What is established What to verify
China Standard and eSIM models launched at RMB 1,999 and RMB 2,299 Exact configuration, language, carrier and warranty
Global markets Official global product pages exist Local price, retail availability, ECG, eSIM and Google-service support
United States No US-specific price or official retail listing is established in the supplied sources Whether Xiaomi officially sells the model and whether cellular service is supported
Imported unit May be available through unofficial channels Model number, firmware, warranty, payments, health features, bands and carrier activation

Do not convert the Chinese price directly into an expected US MSRP, and do not treat a retailer listing as proof of regional compatibility. The exact model and software region matter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict

Xiaomi Watch 5’s dual-chip design and large 930mAh battery are the most credible reasons to care about it. Xiaomi’s stated endurance reaches up to six days in Smart or Performance mode, while the watch retains Wear OS, Google apps, sapphire protection, advanced navigation and a broad set of health and fitness tools.

ECG and EMG gestures make the package distinctive, but they should not be treated as universal or guaranteed features. ECG depends on regional certification and availability; gestures depend on setup, supported screens and firmware. The Chinese eSIM model is real, but global and US carrier compatibility remains a separate question.

For Android users buying an officially supported local version, the Watch 5 could be one of the more compelling long-battery Wear OS options. For iPhone owners, ECG-focused buyers or shoppers considering an imported eSIM unit, the regional limitations are serious enough to look at alternatives first.
