The international model runs Wear OS by Google—reported at launch as Wear OS 6—starts at €299.99 in Europe, and works exclusively with Android phones. Availability, pricing, warranty coverage and services such as Google Wallet may differ by country.
Global launch, price and availability
Xiaomi’s global launch event introduced the Watch 5 alongside the Xiaomi 17 series and other products. The watch is now listed in Xiaomi’s global wearables directory and on regional product pages, including Xiaomi’s Mexico site. However, “global” does not mean simultaneous retail availability everywhere. Buyers should check their country’s Xiaomi store for stock, local pricing, warranty terms and supported features.
The reported European starting price is €299.99. Earlier figures of roughly €329 or around $390 came from pre-launch listings and should not be treated as the final price. The European price is also not a confirmed US MSRP; currency conversion does not establish US availability or local pricing.
Use Xiaomi’s official global product page and global watch directory to distinguish an official global model from an imported China-market unit.

Wear OS 6 and Google services
The global Xiaomi Watch 5 uses Wear OS by Google rather than Xiaomi’s proprietary watch software. Launch coverage identified the version as Wear OS 6. That brings access to Google Play and support for Google Maps, Google Wallet, Google Calendar, Gemini and YouTube Music compatibility through Wear OS.
These services still depend on setup, an internet connection where required, account support and regional availability. Google Wallet, for example, requires a supported country, bank and card. Gemini features may vary by language, account, region and software version.
This is a major distinction from the China model. A Chinese-market Watch 5 should not be assumed to provide the same Wear OS, Google-services, language, payment, cellular or warranty experience as the global version. Importing one is not the same as buying the international model, and there is no basis for assuming that China hardware can simply be converted into the global Wear OS version.

The 47mm case gives the Watch 5 room for its large battery and display, but it may feel bulky on smaller wrists. Sapphire glass and stainless steel make the materials package more premium than many fitness-first watches, while 5ATM water resistance is suitable for ordinary swimming-related use within Xiaomi’s stated limitations.
Battery life: six days is a claim, not a guarantee
Xiaomi claims up to:
- Six days in Smart mode
- Four days with Always-On Display enabled in Smart mode
- 18 days in Power-saving mode
The headline six-day figure comes from Xiaomi’s controlled test conditions, including limited notifications, Bluetooth calling and music playback, exercise recording and GNSS use. It should not be read as typical runtime for every Wear OS owner.

Always-On Display, frequent GPS recording, LTE or eSIM use where available, calls, music streaming, high notification volume and continuous health monitoring can all reduce endurance. The dual-chip design—Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 for demanding tasks and BES2800BP for lower-power operation—is central to Xiaomi’s battery strategy, but independent testing is needed to establish how consistently the watch reaches these figures in everyday use.
Gesture controls
One of the Watch 5’s unusual features is gesture control. Xiaomi says it combines EMG, PPG and IMU sensors to recognise actions including:
- Pinching twice to answer or hang up a call
- Pinching twice to snooze an alarm
- Rubbing twice to dismiss an alarm
- Pinching twice to take a remote photo
- Pinching twice to start or stop a timer
- Snapping fingers, shaking the wrist twice or rotating the wrist twice
The feature is more limited than a list of gestures might suggest. Users must enable Tilt-to-wake and Gestures, position the forearm correctly and use supported screens where the relevant indicator appears. Gestures may not work in Sleep mode, Do Not Disturb mode or under certain Always-On Display conditions. Xiaomi also supports custom gestures, but advertised capability should not be confused with proven reliability or universal interface control without hands-on testing.
Health, fitness and navigation
The watch includes heart-rate, blood-oxygen, stress, sleep and women’s-health tracking, as well as one-tap health assessment and more than 150 sports modes. Xiaomi’s broader Watch 5 announcement also discusses ECG-related functionality, but availability and regulatory approval must be checked for the specific country and model.
For outdoor training, the Watch 5 has dual-frequency GNSS covering five satellite systems. Xiaomi also advertises offline maps, route navigation, track-back navigation and route-deviation alerts. These capabilities—and the maps or regions supported—can vary by market and software version.

These are wellness and health-tracking features, not a replacement for medical equipment. Xiaomi states that the product is not designed to predict, diagnose, prevent or cure disease. Treat readings such as ECG, blood oxygen and heart rate as consumer measurements unless a specific feature has the appropriate approval in your market.
Xiaomi ecosystem features
Xiaomi phone and tablet owners may receive additional value through HyperConnect and Smart Hub. Xiaomi says Smart Hub requires a compatible Xiaomi smartphone or tablet running the latest HyperOS 3, the latest Mi Fitness app and Xiaomi Home version 10.4 or above.

Owners of Samsung, Google, OnePlus or other Android phones still get the core Android pairing experience, but should not assume every Xiaomi cross-device function will be available.
Who should buy the Xiaomi Watch 5?
- Android users wanting Wear OS: Google Play and Google services make it more capable than Xiaomi’s proprietary watch platforms.
- Xiaomi phone owners: Recent Xiaomi devices may unlock deeper Smart Hub and HyperConnect integration.
- Battery-conscious buyers: The 930mAh cell and dual-chip architecture offer an unusually ambitious endurance claim for a Wear OS watch.
- Outdoor exercisers: Dual-frequency GNSS, offline-map support and route features are useful on paper for training and navigation.
- Buyers who value materials: Sapphire glass and a 316L stainless-steel case add durability and premium appeal.
Who should skip it?
- iPhone owners: The Watch 5 does not support iOS and is not an Apple Watch alternative.
- Small-wrist users: The 47mm case may be uncomfortable or visually oversized.
- Buyers needing guaranteed LTE or eSIM: Cellular availability must be confirmed for the exact region and model.
- Shoppers in unsupported markets: Imported units may lack official warranty, local payment support or compatible cellular bands.
- Anyone expecting six days under heavy use: GPS, Always-On Display, LTE, streaming and frequent calls will reduce battery life.
Alternatives to consider
Google Pixel Watch: A sensible choice for buyers who prioritise Google’s first-party integration and a more compact design direction. It is generally less battery-focused than Xiaomi’s large-cell approach, so compare the current generation and local price.
Samsung Galaxy Watch: Offers a mature Wear OS ecosystem, broad retail availability and strong integration with Samsung phones. Some health and ecosystem functions are optimised for Galaxy devices.

OnePlus Watch: Worth considering for Android users who want Wear OS while placing a high priority on endurance. Check the current model and local availability rather than relying on older pricing.
Xiaomi or Redmi non-Wear OS watches: These can provide longer battery life and simpler fitness tracking, but generally lack the full Wear OS app and Google-services experience. The Redmi Watch 5 is a separate product and should not be confused with the Wear OS Xiaomi Watch 5.
What to check before buying
- Confirm that your phone runs Android 8.0 or later.
- Verify that the listing is the official global model, not a China import.
- Check local support for Google Wallet, Gemini, ECG, offline maps and any LTE or eSIM version.
- Compare the official local price, warranty and return policy rather than converting €299.99 into a nominal US price.
- Consider whether a 47mm watch will fit comfortably.
- Read battery claims alongside your expected use of GPS, Always-On Display, calls, streaming and health monitoring.
Bottom line: The Xiaomi Watch 5 has already launched globally; the original “may launch soon” framing is obsolete. Its appeal is the combination of Wear OS 6, Google services, a 930mAh battery, premium materials and Xiaomi ecosystem features. The main reasons to hesitate are Android-only compatibility, the unverified real-world meaning of the six-day claim, regional service restrictions and uncertain availability in markets without an official local listing.
