The Zenith Defy Revival A3648 is a modern steel revival of the 1969 A3648, with a black-and-orange dial, orange-tinted bezel insert and a manufacturer-rated 600-metre depth rating. Zenith specifies a 37 mm case, 15.5 mm thickness and its Elite 670 automatic movement with approximately 50 hours of power reserve. This article covers the steel reference 03.A3648.670/21.M3648—not the separately numbered titanium Shadow.
What the Zenith Defy Revival A3648 is
Zenith introduced the steel Defy Revival A3648 in 2024 as the first vintage Zenith diver to receive the brand’s Revival treatment. It draws on the original A3648, which Zenith dates to 1969. The modern watch retains the family’s angular, 14-sided bezel design and orange-accented diver look, while using contemporary materials and specifications. Zenith’s 2024 launch release and technical specifications identify the steel model as reference 03.A3648.670/21.M3648.
Horologium’s 16 May 2024 hands-on coverage describes the vintage A3648 as having a 38 mm steel barrel-shaped case, screw-down crown at 4:30 and orange rotating bezel. Those are details of the historic watch, not dimensions to apply to the modern 37 mm model. Horologium’s account of the original and the revival also notes the bracelet’s expansion adjustment.

How the dimensions and 600 m rating translate
37 mm across, 15.5 mm thick
The 37 mm diameter is compact by many contemporary dive-watch standards, but the 15.5 mm thickness is substantial. Diameter alone therefore does not establish how the watch will sit or feel on a particular wrist. The available published material gives the dimensions, but does not establish personal comfort or fit; trying it on is the useful check if wrist clearance or sleeve fit matters.

Zenith rates the steel A3648 to 600 m / 60 ATM. Its 2024 launch material connects the 600-metre figure to 1,969 feet as a reference to the original model’s 1969 launch year. That is a manufacturer specification and historical design link, not independent evidence of performance during deep-water use. The reviewed sources do not report an independent dive test.
Movement, bracelet and everyday considerations
Elite 670 automatic movement
The Elite 670 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and has approximately 50 hours of power reserve, according to Zenith’s 2024 technical specifications. The listed material does not establish measured timekeeping accuracy, so the specification should not be read as a test result.
Five-link bracelet with expansion adjustment
The steel bracelet takes inspiration from the Gay Frères bracelet made for the original A3648. Zenith says its folding buckle’s expansion adjustment allows the watch to be worn over a wetsuit without adding or removing links. This describes the adjustment’s intended use; it does not establish how the clasp feels or performs in practice.
Steel A3648 versus titanium Shadow
The titanium Defy Revival A3648 Shadow is a different watch, not a material option on the steel reference. Zenith’s UK product page lists it under reference 97.A3648.670/21.M3648. The page specifies the same 37 mm diameter, 60 ATM / 600 m rating and Elite 670 movement with approximately 50 hours of reserve, but gives the Shadow a black-and-yellow colorway and yellow-tinted bezel insert. Its listed £7,700 price is a UK regional listing for the titanium variant, not a price for the steel model. Zenith’s UK product page for the titanium Shadow shows those current listing details.

Availability and what to verify before buying
Zenith’s 2024 release stated that the steel model was available through its physical and online boutiques and authorized retailers around the world. That describes the manufacturer’s stated sales channels; it does not confirm current stock at any particular shop. Check that a listing names reference 03.A3648.670/21.M3648 if you want the steel model, and confirm the seller, price, condition and availability directly. The UK price shown for the titanium Shadow is not a substitute for a current steel-model quote.

The stated specifications establish the steel watch’s dimensions, materials, movement, bracelet design and rated water resistance. The cited material does not establish the writer’s personal tactile impressions, measured accuracy, comfort on a given wrist or actual deep-water performance. Those points require direct examination or testing rather than inference from the specification sheet.
