The 2022 Royal Oak update brought a collection-wide design evolution for the model’s 50th anniversary. The 37 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding is the size to look at for Calibre 5900; the chronograph examples in Audemars Piguet’s 2022 overview are 38 mm and 41 mm, not 37 mm. The overview gives representative references rather than a guaranteed complete catalog.
What changed in the 2022 Royal Oak collection?
Audemars Piguet retained the familiar Royal Oak design while refining the case, bracelet and dial proportions across the 34, 37, 38 and 41 mm models. The established visual cues remain the tonneau-shaped case, octagonal bezel and eight visible hexagonal screws, though finishing, materials and dial details vary by reference.
- Broader polished chamfers were applied to the case and bracelet, and the caseback was integrated more closely into the case.
- Bracelet links became thinner and lighter, with a more pronounced taper.
- The proportions of the hands and hour markers were harmonised.
- Many new models received an applied 24-carat gold Audemars Piguet signature.
- The manufacturer says the “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial shade is now produced using PVD.
These are collection-level changes, not proof that every listed reference has identical finishing or a particular dial.
How do the 37 mm models differ from the chronographs?
The 37 mm models named in the 2022 overview are Royal Oak Selfwinding watches, while its chronograph examples measure 38 mm or 41 mm. The distinction matters when searching by size: the chronographs below should not be described as 37 mm models.

AP describes Calibre 5900 as thinner and higher-frequency than the Calibre 3120 it replaced in the 37 mm collection. The company says Calibres 5900 and 4401 can be viewed through sapphire casebacks. Its 2022 overview also describes a dedicated 22-carat gold openworked anniversary oscillating weight with a “50-years” logo, color-matched to the case, for 37 and 41 mm selfwinding and selfwinding chronograph models. What do the 37 mm reference numbers tell you?
The reference is essential for distinguishing configurations: two watches in the 15550ST family can differ in dial and anniversary description. For example, AP’s product pages identify these stainless-steel 37 mm versions:

- 15550ST.OO.1356ST.01: silver-toned “Grande Tapisserie” dial, Calibre 5900, and a rhodium-toned pink-gold anniversary oscillating weight; AP identifies it as a 50th-anniversary model.
See the official pages for reference 15550ST.OO.1356ST.08 and reference 15550ST.OO.1356ST.01. Check the complete reference rather than assuming that a shared case size or family prefix means the same dial, material or anniversary specification.
Which chronograph references appear in the 2022 overview?
For 38 mm chronographs, the overview names 26715ST.OO.1356ST.01 and 26715OR.ZZ.1356OR.01. For 41 mm chronographs, it names 26240ST.OO.1320ST.02 and 26240OR.OO.1320OR.01, and specifies Calibre 4401 for the 41 mm chronograph models. The overview does not establish a movement specification for the 38 mm examples, so confirm that detail against an exact reference’s product information.

One unusual 2022 chronograph is not an ordinary collection reference: 26240CE.OO.1225CE.98, the black-ceramic “One Drop” Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph, has a bright-blue dial and a titanium sapphire caseback engraved “Unique Piece.” AP says it was dedicated to the 2022 One Drop auction. - Start with the full reference number. Use it to identify the exact configuration rather than relying on a listing’s shorthand.
- Confirm size and complication separately. The featured selfwinding line is 37 mm; the cited chronographs are 38 mm or 41 mm.
- Check movement claims by model group. Calibre 5900 is associated with the 37 mm selfwinding collection; Calibre 4401 is specified for the 41 mm chronographs.
- Verify material, dial and anniversary details for that reference. A collection overview does not settle every variant’s specification.
- Separate unique pieces from production models. The One Drop watch is explicitly identified as a unique auction piece.
The official overview is a useful guide to representative 2022 models, but it does not claim to list every configuration. Its product information does not establish current prices, supply, regional availability, resale values or seller authenticity controls.
