Choose by the kind of fall beer you want
For malt-forward Oktoberfest character
Samuel Adams Octoberfest and Cape May Oktoberfest are the clearest Märzen-style options in this selection. The Samuel Adams version is one of four beers in its Fall Legends pack, while Cape May lists its Oktoberfest separately among limited-time fall beers. Their published ABVs are 5.3% and 5.8%, respectively; the brewery descriptions provide style and ingredients, not a comparative tasting verdict.

For pumpkin and baking-spice notes
Jack-O is the lower-ABV choice at 4.4% within the Samuel Adams variety pack, with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and a citrus hint in the brewer’s description. Cape May Pick of the Batch is 6.0% ABV, with real pumpkin and cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla notes. Dogfish Head Punkin Ale is 7.0% ABV and is described as a brown ale made with pumpkin, brown sugar and baking spices; it is also available in draft and six-packs, rather than only as part of its variety pack.

New Apple Spice Ale adds a fruited option to the Samuel Adams Fall Legends pack. The brewery describes it as subtly sweet with seasonal spice and says it is exclusive to that variety pack. It is 5.0% ABV.

For a hop-forward choice
Dogfish Head’s Favorite Sweater is the IPA pick: a 6.5% American IPA whose brewer-described profile combines pine and citrus with Munich malt and caramel. It is exclusive to the 12-can Pass the Aux pack, which also contains Punkin Ale, Indian Brown Ale at 7.2%, and Namaste at 4.8%.
For an option below 0.5% ABV
Samuel Adams introduced Non-Alcoholic Octoberfest in 2026. Boston Beer Company reports less than 0.5% ABV and said six-packs were available at major U.S. retailers at announcement time. That is a useful option for readers seeking an Octoberfest-style beer with less than 0.5% alcohol, but current local availability should be confirmed.

More limited-time releases to look for locally
Cape May’s fall guide also lists Mop Water, a 7.3% five-spiced ale, and Devil’s Reach, an 8.6% Belgian-style ale. The brewery describes the four beers in its guide as limited-time offerings at its tasting room or local retailers, so availability outside its local market is not established.
pFriem Family Brewers’ 2026 package calendar schedules Oktoberfest among its classic limited beers and Pumpkin Bier among select seasonal beers. What the breweries’ claims do—and do not—establish
These picks are based on current brewery announcements and published product descriptions, not an independent tasting or a comprehensive survey of fall beer releases. They are best treated as options to investigate by style and stated profile, rather than as a definitive national ranking.
Boston Beer Company calls Samuel Adams Octoberfest its “#1 best-selling fall seasonal” and “the #1 best-selling fall seasonal for 30+ years.” Its September 1, 2026 announcement attributes the ranking to Nielsen data for the U.S. retail scope “Total US x AOC+Liquor+Conv” from August 16 through November 1, 2025. That is a company-reported claim tied to that measurement period and scope, not a 2026 sales result or an independent ranking of all craft beers. In the same release, Boston Beer Company’s senior director and head of beer, Jon London, said, “Fans wait all year for the return of Samuel Adams Octoberfest as a signal that fall has arrived.”

- Choose the beer or pack format that fits your preference: individual beer, variety pack, draft, or non-alcoholic option.
- Check the brewery’s current product or availability information. Dogfish Head states Pass the Aux is available in select states; Cape May lists its fall beers as limited-time and points readers to its tasting room or local retailers.
- Confirm stock with a nearby retailer or brewery before traveling. A release announcement or seasonal calendar does not guarantee current shelf availability in your area.
