Looking for an affirming way to hike, climb, camp, surf, or spend time outdoors? It is a useful starting point, not a comprehensive or permanent directory: the groups differ in location, activity, age served, and structure, and their current events and needs can change.
How to choose a group—and support it
Start with the activity and community you are looking for, then check the group’s own page for its current location, schedule, participation requirements, and support requests. Some organizations run trips or events; others provide training, grants, gear access, advocacy, or an online community. Support can mean showing up, volunteering, donating, sharing work, or contributing equipment when requested.

Pink Summits
Pink Summits focuses on queer visibility in outdoor sports. Its site lists opportunities that include events, grants, scholarships, training, and expeditions. Review its current page for the latest offerings and eligibility details rather than assuming any particular program is open now.

Regional clubs, collectives, and activity-specific communities
The roundup also includes regional clubs, collectives, coalitions, initiatives, and online communities. These can be a better fit than a national network if you want local outings or a particular activity. Read the group descriptions in the Field Mag directory and follow the linked organizations for current reach, schedules, and participation details.
Distinguish similarly named groups
Names can sound alike without referring to the same organization. For example, Queer Surf Club and San Francisco’s Queer Surf are separate entries in the roundup. Check the location and official page before joining, sharing, or directing support.

Kindling Collective’s gear library provides camping, hiking, and backpacking equipment. The roundup says outside funding helps pay for gear repairs, new equipment, rent, and wages. If you want to help, first check the collective’s current needs and instructions; a gear donation is useful only when it matches what the library can accept.

What is known about LGBTQ+ outdoor participation
The Washington State LGBTQ Commission attributes to the Outdoor Industry Association’s 2024 Outdoor Participation Trends Report the finding that LGBTQ+ individuals recreate outdoors at a higher rate than any other adult cohort. The commission’s page does not provide a numeric rate, so this finding should not be turned into a percentage or a more detailed comparison. See the commission’s inclusion page.

- Check the official page for event dates, registration, eligibility, and any stated accessibility information; a directory listing alone does not establish those details.
- Use the organization’s own donation or volunteer instructions, and ask before sending equipment.
- For tax questions, verify the recipient’s legal status and your own circumstances rather than assuming all groups qualify for deductible donations.
