Certina and Tissot use Powermatic 80 movements; the Hamilton example here uses the related-but-differently named H-10 caliber. All three cited watches advertise an approximately 80-hour power reserve, but they are not identical: the Certina is a 41 mm, 20-bar sports watch, while the Hamilton is a 38 mm field watch rated to 10 bar. Tissot’s Gentleman adds another 38 mm option, though its exact reference and market variant should be checked before comparing every specification.

Three watches at a glance

Watch Movement and reserve Case and water resistance Other confirmed details
Certina DS Action Day-Date Powermatic 80, C032.430.16.051.00 Automatic Powermatic 80.621; advertised 80-hour reserve 41 mm diameter; 11.96 mm height; up to 20 bar (200 m) Sapphire crystal; leather strap; 20 mm lug spacing; two-year warranty listed on the product page
Hamilton Khaki Field Auto, H70455133 Automatic H-10; Hamilton states 80 hours of typical power reserve 38 mm diameter; 11 mm thickness; 10 bar (100 m) Sapphire crystal
Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Powermatic 80; up to 80-hour reserve 38 mm version described by Tissot; water resistance not stated in the cited article The described version has a Nivachron balance spring, date, see-through caseback, and compatibility with an 18 mm strap; confirm the exact reference before relying on these details

These are manufacturer-published specifications for the cited examples, not a claim that every watch in each collection shares them. Certina’s figures are for reference C032.430.16.051.00 (Certina product page); Hamilton’s are for H70455133 (Hamilton US product page); and Tissot’s Gentleman details come from its model article (Tissot article).

What Powermatic 80 means—and why Hamilton says H-10

Powermatic 80 is a movement name used by Tissot and Certina. Hamilton’s comparable movement in the Khaki Field Auto example is called H-10, so it would be inaccurate to describe all three watches as having a Powermatic movement.

Tissot says it introduced Powermatic 80 in 2013 as a technical evolution of ETA’s 2824, developed with ETA. In Tissot’s account, reducing the balance frequency from 4 Hz to 3 Hz lowers energy use, while a longer mainspring contributes to the longer reserve. This is the manufacturer’s explanation of the movement’s development, not an independent test (Tissot’s Powermatic 80 history).

Certina describes Powermatic 80 as powered by wrist motion and offering up to 80 hours of reserve. It also sells distinct versions, including Nivachron, skeleton, Big Date, and GMT variants; the movement-family name alone does not identify a watch’s complete specification (Certina on Powermatic 80).

How to interpret an 80-hour power reserve

Power reserve is how long a fully wound watch can continue running when it is not being wound by wear or another source. An 80-hour reserve is roughly three days off the wrist. The manufacturers use terms such as “up to” or “typical,” rather than guaranteeing the same running time for every individual watch in every condition. Hamilton specifically calls the H-10 figure 80 hours of typical reserve; Certina advertises 80 hours for the cited reference, and Tissot describes up to 80 hours for the Gentleman example.

Automatic watches are powered by wrist motion and do not use a battery. Their reserve and winding instructions vary by model. Tissot’s mechanical-watch manual gives a 36-to-80-hour range across its automatic watches and advises manual winding if a watch has stopped or has not been worn for several days; consult the instructions for the specific model (Tissot mechanical-watch manual).

Which one fits your use?

Choose the Certina for a larger case and higher stated water resistance

The cited DS Action Day-Date is the largest of these examples at 41 mm and has the highest stated water resistance, up to 20 bar. Its leather strap and 20 mm lug spacing are confirmed for this reference. Those dimensions make it a different wearing proposition from the smaller Hamilton, even though both have an advertised or typical 80-hour reserve.

Choose the Hamilton for a smaller field-watch format

The Khaki Field Auto H70455133 measures 38 mm across and is 11 mm thick, with a 10-bar rating. Its H-10 is not branded Powermatic 80, despite the similar reserve figure. The official US listing is region-specific; stock status can change, so check the current page or an authorized local retailer rather than treating a past availability note as current.

Consider the Tissot Gentleman, but verify the reference

Tissot’s article describes a 38 mm Gentleman with Powermatic 80, up to 80 hours of reserve, a Nivachron balance spring, date, see-through caseback, and 18 mm strap compatibility. Because the article does not establish a specific reference and market variant for every detail, confirm the product page for the exact watch you intend to buy before comparing dimensions or fit.
