If you like the Patek Philippe Aquanaut’s sporty-luxury character, three watches worth comparing are the IWC Ingenieur Automatic, Girard-Perregaux Laureato and Tissot PRX Powermatic 80. They share parts of the broad sports-watch appeal, but they are not Aquanaut duplicates—and none matches Patek Philippe’s prestige. The Ingenieur and Laureato are high-end integrated-bracelet options; the PRX sits in a substantially lower price tier.
What the Aquanaut comparison is—and isn’t
The Aquanaut 5167A-001 is a useful reference point, not a template these alternatives reproduce. Patek Philippe describes it as a contemporary sporty-chic watch, with a 40.8 mm stainless-steel case, 8.1 mm thickness, automatic date movement, black composite strap and embossed Aquanaut-pattern dial. The official page lists 30 m water resistance and a price of $27,257; that is the page-listed figure, not a verified transaction price or a globally applicable price. Its 26-330 S C movement is listed with a 35–45 hour power reserve.
The alternatives below instead include integrated or steel bracelets, different case materials and markedly different brand positions. Their specifications and listed prices apply to the named references or collections, not every watch sold under those model names.
How the three alternatives compare
| Watch | Size and material | Bracelet or strap | Movement and reserve | Water resistance | Page-listed price and region |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IWC Ingenieur Automatic | Collection includes 35, 40 and 42 mm sizes; materials vary, including gold, titanium and ceramic | Integrated bracelet | IWC 82000 calibre family: 60 or 80 hours, depending on movement; verify the exact reference | Not stated in the cited collection information | Not stated in the cited collection information |
| Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm, ref. 81010-32-631-32A | 42 mm; black ceramic | Integrated bracelet | Automatic GP01800; reserve not stated | 100 m | €22,000 on the Italian-market official page |
| Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, ref. T137.407.11.051.00 | 40 mm; 316L stainless steel | Steel bracelet | Automatic; 80 hours | 100 m | ₩1,170,000 on Tissot’s Korean-market page |
The prices are from different regional manufacturer pages and are not a like-for-like current-price ranking. They are page-listed figures, not independently audited transaction prices. Water-resistance ratings alone do not establish that watches are equally suitable for every water activity.

1. IWC Ingenieur Automatic: an integrated-bracelet luxury option
The Ingenieur is the clearest alternative here if what draws you to the Aquanaut is a luxury sports watch with a bracelet rather than a rubber-style strap. IWC’s collection spans 35, 40 and 42 mm cases and multiple materials, so the exact reference matters when comparing fit, finish and movement.
IWC says the collection reinterprets “the bold aesthetic codes of Gérald Gentas Ingenieur SL from the 1970s” with the ergonomics and finishing of a contemporary integrated-bracelet luxury sports watch. That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent assessment. IWC’s 82000 calibre family is listed with either a 60- or 80-hour reserve depending on the movement; check the particular watch rather than applying one figure across the range.

2. Girard-Perregaux Laureato: a high-end comparison in ceramic
The specified Laureato is the 42 mm black ceramic reference 81010-32-631-32A. It pairs an integrated bracelet with a ceramic case and an automatic GP01800 movement. The official Italian-market page lists 191 components, a thickness of 11.13 mm, 100 m water resistance and a price of €22,000. Those details—including the price and ceramic construction—belong to this reference and page; they should not be generalized to the full Laureato range.
At 42 mm, this Laureato is larger in diameter than the 40.8 mm Aquanaut baseline. Its ceramic construction and integrated bracelet also give it a different wearing surface and visual character from the Aquanaut’s steel case and composite strap.

3. Tissot PRX Powermatic 80: a different price tier
The PRX Powermatic 80 is the accessible automatic sports-watch choice in this group, not a direct luxury-status substitute. Tissot’s Korean-market listing for reference T137.407.11.051.00 specifies a 40 mm, 316L stainless-steel watch with a steel bracelet, automatic movement, 80-hour power reserve and 100 m water resistance. The listed Korean price is ₩1,170,000; it is regional and may change.
The PRX makes sense if the broad appeal you want is a sporty watch on a metal bracelet and the Aquanaut’s price tier is not the goal. Its price and brand position make the comparison a category-level one, rather than a claim of equivalent prestige, finishing or exclusivity.
Which one should you consider?
- Choose the Ingenieur to investigate if you want an integrated-bracelet luxury sports watch and value a range of case sizes and materials. Confirm the exact reference’s movement and specifications.
- Consider the Laureato if the specific appeal is a high-end integrated-bracelet watch in black ceramic. The cited 42 mm reference is a distinct material and size choice from the Aquanaut.
- Look at the PRX Powermatic 80 if you want an automatic steel sports watch with a bracelet in a substantially lower listed price tier. Treat it as a different level of product, not an Aquanaut equivalent.
Check the exact reference before buying
Manufacturer pages describe specific models and collection ranges; they do not establish current stock, street prices or availability in every country. Before comparing or purchasing, confirm the reference number, case size, material, movement, bracelet configuration, water-resistance rating and price on the page for your market. In particular, do not transfer the Laureato’s ceramic specifications or Italian price to other Laureato versions, or assume one Ingenieur reserve applies to every size and movement.
