They are particularly useful for hands-free first-person photos and video, phone calls, podcasts, and quick voice queries. Photos and clips move to the paired phone through the Meta AI app; the glasses are not a self-contained camera with a normal file-management system.
What works well
- More discreet and socially familiar than display glasses.
- Good fit for calls, music, short recordings, and voice assistance.
- The camera and privacy LED are hardware-linked, so recording is intended to be accompanied by an indicator light.
- Physical controls include a power switch, avoiding total dependence on voice commands.
Limitations
Battery life is the main constraint. Occasional audio use is much less demanding than continuous recording, livestreaming, calls, or frequent AI queries. Treat them as everyday audio glasses with a camera—not as an all-day action camera.
Bluetooth pairing alone is not a complete setup. The glasses may appear connected for audio while camera transfer and app features fail if the Meta AI app configuration has not been completed. AI, translation, and visual features also vary by country and account.
There is no lens display. They cannot show turn-by-turn directions, messages, or AI answers in front of your eyes. Also, although the privacy LED is part of the capture system, it may be harder to notice in bright daylight; follow the rules of the venue and ask before recording.
Best choice if: you want camera, calls, audio, and voice AI in a normal-looking pair of glasses.
2. XREAL One — best for a stable virtual screen
XREAL One is the strongest display-glasses choice for people who want a large private screen for a laptop, handheld console, or video playback. Its X1 spatial-computing chip handles native 3DoF display processing, while the glasses provide a 50-degree field of view, 1080p-per-eye Micro-OLED panels, refresh rates up to 120Hz, electrochromic dimming, and Bose-tuned audio.
The useful distinction here is stability. The glasses can keep the virtual screen anchored or let it follow your head, rather than simply moving the entire image whenever you look around. Available modes include Anchor, Follow, Default Screen, Ultra-Wide, Side View, and 3D.

Useful controls
- Double-click the X Button to open the display interface.
- Choose Screen Size or Screen Distance to adjust the virtual display.
- Use the +/- Button beneath the right temple to change brightness.
- For 3D content, open Display interface > 3D Mode, then click the X Button.
The glasses require USB-C DisplayPort video output and at least 5V/1A of power. A USB-C port that supports charging or data only will not produce a picture. Phones, laptops, and handhelds may also drain faster while driving the display.
Switch owners should budget for an appropriate HDMI/USB-C adapter or XREAL accessory; an ordinary handheld-mode USB-C connection does not provide the required video path. Ultra-Wide Mode can also disappoint if the host cannot output the required aspect ratio. And 3D Mode is not retained after reconnection unless assigned to the Quick Button.
XREAL One offers 3DoF, not room-scale 6DoF tracking. The optional XREAL Eye accessory is needed for additional camera-based spatial functions.
Best choice if: you want the most controlled, screen-like experience for gaming, movies, or laptop work.
3. VITURE Pro XR — best for travel and gaming
VITURE Pro XR is a wired private cinema and gaming display built around Sony Micro-OLED panels. It offers 1080p resolution, refresh rates up to 120Hz, electrochromic dimming, Harman-tuned stereo speakers, and built-in myopia adjustment from 0 to -5.0D. VITURE quotes a 135-inch virtual screen, but that is a simulated image—not a physical screen and not a guarantee that every user will perceive the same size.

Accessory requirements are the other issue. Depending on the source, you may need VITURE’s mobile dock, an adapter, or SpaceWalker software. SpaceWalker can add software features, but it does not turn the glasses into a standalone computer. Nintendo Switch support is likewise accessory-dependent.

The built-in myopia adjustment is useful but not a universal prescription solution. Astigmatism, farsightedness, or more complex prescriptions may require prescription inserts. Correct eye position also matters: if the frames sit poorly, the image can be clipped or feel uncomfortable.
Best choice if: you want a bright, high-refresh display for a handheld or laptop while travelling and are comfortable carrying the necessary adapter or dock.

4. Even Realities G1 — best discreet heads-up display
Even G1 occupies the middle ground between ordinary eyewear and a wearable monitor. Its binocular green Micro LED waveguides provide a 640 × 200 image, 25-degree field of view, 20Hz refresh rate, up to 1,000 nits brightness, and approximately 98% passthrough.
The display is designed for short, glanceable information rather than films or games. Its feature list includes QuickNote, Translate, Navigate, Teleprompt, Even AI, Notification, Dashboard, and Transcribe. That makes G1 a good fit for prompts, short notes, translation, navigation cues, and reminders that would otherwise require pulling out your phone.
Even supports iOS and Android, Bluetooth LE 5.2, and prescription lenses. The company claims up to 1.5 days of battery life, though actual runtime depends on how heavily the display and connected functions are used. Full charging typically takes two to three hours.
The trade-off is that the phone remains central. Reviews found that many advanced actions still require interaction with the companion phone, so G1 is not as hands-free as its appearance suggests. The 25-degree field of view is narrow, and green text is not a substitute for a full-color augmented-reality display.
G1 is water-resistant for splashes and light rain, not waterproof. Avoid heavy rain, immersion, washing under a tap, or ultrasonic cleaning. If the case light flashes orange, check that the glasses are positioned and folded correctly.

RayNeo Air 3S is the value pick for private movies, gaming, and laptop viewing. It is a display accessory rather than an AI assistant or camera product, and it was launched globally on March 15, 2025.
The appeal is straightforward: put on the glasses and view a large virtual image from a compatible device without carrying a dedicated portable monitor. As with other wired display glasses, the quoted screen size describes a virtual projection. It is not a physical 200-inch panel and will vary with fit, source, and viewing conditions.

Compatibility deserves more attention than the low price. The source must provide the correct USB-C DisplayPort video signal, or you must use an appropriate adapter. The glasses have no independent battery, so the connected phone, laptop, or handheld supplies power and may lose charge more quickly.
Air 3S is primarily a screen. It does not offer the native spatial anchoring associated with XREAL One, and it should not be presented as a standalone computer. Outside light can also reduce perceived contrast, so the supplied light-blocking accessories or a darker room may improve the image.
Best choice if: you want the least expensive route to a large private display and do not need advanced spatial features.
How to choose the right pair
- Decide whether you need a camera or a display. Choose Ray-Ban Meta for recording, audio, calls, and AI. Choose XREAL, VITURE, or RayNeo for an image from another device.
- Check the host device before buying. For display glasses, confirm USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode support. Charging-only USB-C ports will not work.
- Separate screen size from immersion. A claimed 135-inch or larger image is virtual. It does not turn the glasses into a room-scale AR headset.
- Budget for adapters. Handheld consoles and Nintendo Switch setups often need an adapter or dock, even when the glasses use USB-C.
- Check your prescription. VITURE’s -5.0D adjustment will not cover every prescription, and other models may need prescription inserts.
- Consider privacy and weather. Camera glasses require careful recording etiquette. Water-resistant glasses still should not be used in heavy rain or immersed.
Our verdict
Ray-Ban Meta is the best all-round choice for everyday smart features, provided you understand that it has no display. XREAL One is the better technical pick for a stable virtual screen, while VITURE Pro XR is especially compelling for portable gaming. Even G1 is the most discreet option for glanceable information, and RayNeo Air 3S gives budget buyers a straightforward private display.

Battery claims should not be compared directly across this list. A camera recording, AI query, or bright display can change runtime dramatically, while display glasses also draw power from the host device. The right choice depends less on the phrase “smart glasses” than on whether you want to capture the world, receive small prompts, or replace a portable screen.
