Purple was a watch-color possibility in July 2022, not a proven market trend. Brice Goulard’s five-watch selection for Monochrome Watches ranged from a €419 Batavi to a €29,600 Moritz Grossmann, with varied takes on the color: sunray finishes, a matte blue-purple dial and a light-purple gradient. The prices and availability below are historical, not current buying quotes.
Did purple become the watch trend of 2022?
The selection made a case that purple might follow green in popularity, but it did not establish that purple became a lasting trend. Goulard wrote, “Keep in mind that, for now, we’re not yet at the stage where we can ensure that purple is actually a real trend.” His observation that he had seen “a dozen new models” was qualitative, not a market-wide sales or launch statistic. The article cited no named study measuring purple-watch demand.
That makes the five watches useful as a snapshot of how brands and price tiers could interpret purple in 2022—not evidence of current popularity or a 2026 market roundup. Read Brice Goulard’s original Monochrome Watches guide, published July 20, 2022.

How to choose among the five
For the lowest historical price and an everyday bracelet
The Batavi Architect Tony Purple was the entry-priced option in the guide. Its geometric, sunray-brushed dial and integrated steel bracelet make it the most overtly casual, sport-leaning pick here; the stated 100 m water resistance is also the highest figure supplied for these five. Its €419 price is the article’s 2022 figure, so check present pricing and availability independently.
For a matte, blue-leaning dial in two sizes
The NOMOS Club Campus Blue Purple gives the color a quieter treatment: matte blue-purple rather than a bright sunray finish. The guide listed 36 mm and 38.5 mm versions, at €1,100 and €1,200 respectively in 2022. The smaller case is the more compact option on paper, though the article provides no comparative wrist-fit testing.

For a softer gradient and two supplied strap choices
The 37 mm Seiko King Seiko SPB291 uses a light-purple gradient rather than a uniform or sunray purple dial. The guide said it came with a seven-link steel bracelet and a light-grey leather strap, making it the clearest choice here for someone who wants the dial color without a strongly saturated look. Its historical listed price was €1,850.
For a purple chronograph and square case
The TAG Heuer Monaco Purple Limited Edition pairs a 39 × 39 mm case with a purple sunray dial, black sub-dials and an automatic Heuer 02 chronograph. A black alligator strap with purple lining carries the color beyond the dial. Monochrome reported a 500-piece limit and a 2022 price of €6,800; those details do not establish present stock.

Its black Kudu strap keeps the overall presentation more formal than the bracelet-led choices. At €29,600 in the 2022 article and reported limited to 25 pieces, it occupies a different budget and rarity tier from the other four.

“Purple” does not describe one uniform look across this selection. Batavi and Moritz Grossmann used sunray-brushed purple; NOMOS chose matte blue-purple; Seiko used a light gradient; and TAG Heuer combined sunray purple with black chronograph registers. The range shows several design approaches, but five selected watches cannot establish sales growth or lasting consumer demand.
The 2022 guide also mentioned the Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie Chronograph Purple Panda as sold out at the time, and named the Norqain Adventure Sport 37mm Purple without including it among the five principal picks. Those are historical references, not indicators of present availability.
Quick Recap
Before buying one now
- Check the exact reference, current asking price, condition, seller and return terms; the quoted euro prices are from July 2022.
- For limited pieces, verify availability directly rather than assuming the reported production run means a watch can still be purchased—or cannot be.
- Compare case dimensions and try the watch on where possible. The source supplies case sizes but no wrist-fit or independent accuracy tests.
- Confirm water-resistance information from the current manufacturer specifications for the exact reference, especially where the 2022 guide gave no figure.
- If buying a replacement strap, verify the specific watch’s attachment and lug width before ordering.
