WorldTempus’ October 11, 2026 selection names five openworked watches it describes as nominees in that year’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG): the Blancpain Grande Double Sonnerie, Chopard L.U.C Grand Strike, Girard-Perregaux Laureato Fifty Three Gold Bridges, H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Minute Repeater Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Cosmic Rain, and MB&F SP One Platinum. They are not ranked; their differences lie in their complications, movement architecture, size, and materials.
What makes these skeleton watches different?
Here, “skeleton watch” means an openworked watch whose dial or movement bridges have been removed or thinned to reveal parts of the mechanism. That is WorldTempus’ description, not a formal industry standard. The five selections span elaborate chiming watches, tourbillon-led designs, and a time-only watch that makes its movement visible.

1. Blancpain Grande Double Sonnerie: chiming and calendar complications
WorldTempus describes the Grande Double Sonnerie as a Mechanical Exception nominee and reports a 47mm case housing hand-wound Calibre 15GSQ, a movement with 1,053 components. Its listed complications are extensive: grande sonnerie and petite sonnerie, a minute repeater, a retrograde perpetual calendar, and a flying tourbillon.

The article says four hammers strike the notes E, F, G, and B. The wearer can select a Westminster chime or a melody composed by KISS drummer Eric Singer. WorldTempus also reports eight years of development and 13 patents. These are figures reported for this watch by the article, not independent measures of performance or quality.
2. Chopard L.U.C Grand Strike: sapphire gongs and a tourbillon
Also labeled a Mechanical Exception nominee by WorldTempus, the L.U.C Grand Strike combines grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie, and minute repeater functions with a 60-second tourbillon. The article reports a 43mm ethical white-gold case and hand-wound L.U.C 08.03-L movement containing 686 components.

Three openworked gold bridges frame the tourbillon and other movement components, making the supporting architecture part of the visual design. The concept draws on Constant Girard’s 19th-century Three Bridges design.

The article reports a 40mm titanium case and hand-wound HMC 909 movement with more than 400 components. Its complications include a minute repeater and a one-minute flying tourbillon fitted with a cylindrical hairspring.

Hammers and gongs sit on the dial side, while the hollowed case is described as serving as a resonance chamber. An aventurine subdial is decorated with mother-of-pearl “shooting stars.” WorldTempus gives a production limit of 20 pieces. The manufacturer’s current homepage also features an Endeavour Minute Repeater Tourbillon Skeleton Cosmic Rain and corroborates the repeater, tourbillon, aventurine, and mother-of-pearl details, while describing the timepiece as “very rare.” H. 5. MB&F SP One Platinum: exposed mechanics without a tourbillon or repeater
WorldTempus labels the SP One Platinum an Essential nominee. At 38mm, it is the smallest case in this five-watch selection for which the article gives a size. The platinum, time-only watch has a hand-wound movement of 189 components and a stated 72-hour power reserve.
Rather than adding a tourbillon or chiming mechanism, the design presents the barrel, balance wheel, and inclined time display as floating elements inside a pebble-shaped case, with sapphire crystals on both sides. It demonstrates that an openworked presentation does not require a long list of complications: the focus here is on the visual arrangement of a comparatively simpler hours-and-minutes display.
How to read the selection
- For chiming complications: the Blancpain and Chopard combine grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie, and minute repeater functions; the Moser selection includes a minute repeater alongside its tourbillon.
- For a bridge-led display: the Girard-Perregaux makes three gold bridges the defining frame for its tourbillon and movement.
- For a time-only approach: the MB&F SP One Platinum keeps to hours and minutes while exposing the movement’s principal elements.
- For stated production information: WorldTempus specifies a 20-piece limit for the Moser; it does not give an edition size for the other four in this selection.
