The examples below show how that support works—and distinguish Rolex’s reported outcomes from goals or claims that have not been independently verified here.
1. The Rolex Awards for Enterprise back people tackling difficult problems
Rolex created the Awards for Enterprise in 1976 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Oyster. Rather than fund only one field, the program supports individuals whose projects address science and health, the environment, applied technology, exploration or cultural heritage. Rolex says candidates are peer-reviewed, assessed and interviewed before an independent jury selects laureates; those chosen receive a cash grant and other support. The program’s premise is practical: help people pursue work that may otherwise struggle to find resources. Rolex Awards background and the Awards FAQ.

Rolex reports that by 2026 the program had recognized 165 laureates across some 67 countries. Those are cumulative figures published by Rolex, not an independently audited count. The Awards are the broadest example on this list because they support projects across disciplines rather than a single conservation campaign. Rolex’s 2026 Laureates page.
2. Research partnerships help scientists gather data in remote places
Rolex says its partnership with National Geographic dates to 1954. Through Perpetual Planet Expeditions, the partners support scientific research in remote environments, including work intended to generate data about climate and ecosystems. That kind of fieldwork can help researchers document changes in places that are difficult to reach and inform wider understanding of environmental pressures. It is research support and data gathering—not evidence that expeditions by themselves can solve climate change. Rolex and National Geographic.

3. Mission Blue’s Hope Spots put marine protection on the agenda
Rolex supports Mission Blue, the organization founded by marine scientist Sylvia Earle. Mission Blue works with communities and governments to establish marine protected areas called Hope Spots. The model connects local and institutional action: identifying important ocean areas is a step toward protection, while lasting safeguards depend on the work of the communities and authorities involved.
Rolex’s Perpetual Planet page reports Mission Blue’s goal of protecting 30 per cent of the ocean by 2030. That is a target, not an achieved result. The same undated page gives an 8 per cent figure for ocean protection; because it is time-sensitive and the page does not date it, it should not be treated as a current measurement. Earle’s explanation of why the work matters is direct: “Many people still don’t understand that protecting the ocean means that we’re protecting ourselves.” Perpetual Planet.
4. Rachel Ikemeh’s Niger Delta work links conservation with livelihoods
Rolex’s 2026 Laureates page profiles Rachel Ikemeh’s community-based conservation work in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. Rolex reports that the effort has protected over 5,839 hectares of forest and at least 13 threatened species, while improving livelihoods for more than 2,500 people. These are substantial reported results, and the livelihood element matters: conservation is more likely to endure when local communities have a stake in it.
The figures describe the work as presented by Rolex; the company page is not an independent evaluation of the project or proof that Rolex alone caused those outcomes. The work itself is carried out with communities, not by the watchmaker. Rolex’s 2026 Laureates page.

5. Monaco partnerships support ocean-focused institutions and discussion
Rolex says it has supported the Monaco Blue Initiative and Monaco Ocean Week since 2011. It is also the Official Watch of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, an institution that shares knowledge and raises awareness about ocean preservation. This example is about backing organizations and convening attention around marine issues; the cited Rolex page does not establish a specific conservation outcome caused by that support. Joining forces for the future.
How to understand Rolex’s role
These five examples use different mechanisms: grants and support for individual projects, research partnerships, backing for marine-protection work, and institutional relationships. Their common thread is that Rolex helps fund, connect or elevate work led by laureates, scientists, communities and partner organizations. The distinction matters: a corporate contribution can enable or support public-interest work without making the company the sole actor or proving that it caused every outcome.
Since 2019, Rolex has grouped the Awards, the National Geographic partnership and Mission Blue support under its Perpetual Planet initiative. Across these cases, the strongest reader-facing evidence is what Rolex says it supports and, in Ikemeh’s case, the results Rolex reports. The pages cited here do not independently audit the initiatives’ finances or verify all outcomes with beneficiaries.
