Its appeal is specific: it combines the Planet Ocean’s substantial, deep-water specification with event details and a 2,021-piece limited run. The same dimensions that give it a commanding presence may make trying it on essential.
What this America’s Cup edition is
This is the stainless-steel Planet Ocean associated with the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland in 2021. It is not the later 45.5 mm Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition released in connection with the 37th America’s Cup, nor is it the separate Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph. Those watches have different references and specifications.
Fratello’s 2021 hands-on review identifies this model as the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer 43.5 mm, reference 215.32.43.21.04.001. The event connection is more than a name on the dial: the bezel incorporates a five-minute countdown and start-time scale, while the caseback carries America’s Cup text and decoration.
Design: a white dial and a race-start bezel
White ceramic dial
The white ceramic dial gives this Planet Ocean a brighter, more contrast-heavy look than the darker styling often associated with the collection. The case is stainless steel, with a sapphire crystal over the dial and a sapphire caseback, according to Fratello’s specification list.
#1 Best Overall
- Blue Dial with Arabic Numeral and Index Hour Markers, Minute Track, Date Window, Luminescent Hands and Hour Markers
- Stainless Steel Case and Bracelet, Case Diameter: 43.5mm
- Anti-Magnetic, Resistant to Magnetic Fields Reaching 15,000 Gauss
- Self-winding Automatic Chronometer Movement, COSC Chronometer Certified and Co-Axial Escapement
- Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal with Anti-reflective Treatment, Exhibition Case Back
Countdown markings in the bezel
The ceramic bezel’s America’s Cup detail is a five-minute countdown and start-time marking. Fratello describes the highlighted scale as liquid ceramic. It is a functional-looking nod to race timing, but the available review does not establish that the watch is an official regatta timing instrument.
Strap and caseback details
The blue textured rubber strap has red accents and white stitching, echoing the event-themed color treatment without making the whole watch monochrome. On the caseback, event decoration is paired with a unique number for each watch in the stated limited edition.

Movement and dive-watch specification
Fratello reports that the watch uses the automatic Caliber 8900, has a 60-hour power reserve, and carries Master Chronometer certification. The same review gives an anti-magnetic rating of at least 15,000 gauss and water resistance of 600 m / 60 bar. For a buyer, the specification is one part of the decision, not a substitute for the watch’s event-specific design. The countdown bezel and commemorative caseback are what distinguish this reference visually and historically from a standard Planet Ocean; whether those details justify choosing it depends on personal taste and the particular example’s condition and price.
How it may fit on the wrist
At 43.5 mm across, with a 21 mm lug width, this is a substantial watch. Hodinkee reported a 44.8 mm lug-to-lug measurement and noted curved lugs, dimensions and shape that can help frame how it may sit. Fratello reviewer Robert-Jan Broer said it felt fine on his 19 cm wrist. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a fit guarantee for other wrists; try it on if possible, especially if you usually prefer compact watches.

- Wrist fit: compare the 43.5 mm diameter and reported 44.8 mm lug-to-lug measurement with a watch you already wear comfortably.
- Design: decide whether the white ceramic dial, race-start bezel scale, and blue-and-red strap suit your everyday use.
- Commemorative details: consider whether the America’s Cup caseback decoration and individually numbered limited edition add meaning for you.
- Condition and provenance: for a pre-owned example, verify the reference, included components, condition, and seller documentation rather than assuming every listing represents the same package.
Verdict: who should consider it?
This reference makes the most sense for someone who wants a large, steel Planet Ocean and values the America’s Cup connection as part of the watch’s design, not merely as a label. The white ceramic dial, race-start bezel markings, and numbered caseback give it a clear identity. If those details are not important to you, the case size and event-specific styling may be less compelling than a less specialized Planet Ocean. A try-on is particularly useful before committing to its substantial proportions.
