But “Vintage 123” does not describe one fixed specification: documented examples differ in size, movement, functions and strap. The reference matters.
What is the Bell & Ross Vintage 123?
The Vintage 123 is part of Bell & Ross’s classic-watch design language, rather than the more conspicuous square-case look associated with its BR Instrument watches. In a 2010 review, Fratello’s Robert-Jan Broer described the model as understated: “The Vintage 123 is not an attention grabber.” He praised the uncluttered, sixties-inspired appearance and wrote that it was “simple and clean without any frills.” Those are the author’s observations about the watch he reviewed, not a claim about current popularity or sales.
The name covers multiple configurations. A 2010 Vintage 123 example, the BR123-95-SS overview, and the current BR 123 GMT listing do not share a single universal specification sheet.
How big is the Vintage 123?
Published dimensions vary by source and reference. Fratello reported 39 mm for the example in its February 2010 article. The 1916 Company lists 41 mm for reference BR123-95-SS. Bell & Ross’s US page for reference BRV123-BL-GMT/SST headlines the watch as 41 mm but gives a 42 mm case diameter in its technical details.

The sources do not establish whether the difference between these figures reflects a design revision, distinct references or a listing inconsistency. For the GMT, the manufacturer’s own page contains an unresolved 41/42 mm discrepancy; check the specific watch and its documentation if case size is decisive.

The values above belong to the named examples or references, not to every watch sold as a Vintage 123. Fratello’s account is a 2010 review; the BR123-95-SS details are retailer-reported; the GMT specifications and size discrepancy come from the manufacturer’s listing.

What movement does the BR 123 use?
It depends on the version. The 1916 Company’s overview of BR123-95-SS specifies an automatic ETA 2895, with small seconds, a date and an approximately 40-hour reserve. Bell & Ross’s BR 123 24H GMT page instead specifies the automatic BR-CAL.303 and a 24-hour second time zone. These are different configurations, so the ETA 2895 details should not be applied to the GMT.
A ManualsLib summary of Vintage BR 123 technical notes describes automatic winding and approximately 40 hours of running autonomy for the documentation it covers. As that summary is hosted by a third party and does not establish coverage of every reference, verify the manual and calibre for the exact watch.

What is the design and wear experience like?
The 2010 Fratello review presents the Vintage 123 as a clean, relatively quiet alternative to the brand’s more assertive square watches. Broer also praised the finishing and the uncluttered movement appearance visible through the exhibition back. These are subjective impressions tied to the watch he handled, rather than a standardized assessment of every reference.
The documented versions also make clear that “classic” does not mean identical in execution: the BR123-95-SS has small seconds and a date, while the GMT adds a 24-hour second time zone and a fixed graduated bezel. Strap choice differs too, from leather or calfskin on the examples described by Fratello and The 1916 Company to woven rubber on the GMT.

Is the Bell & Ross BR 123 still available?
Bell & Ross’s US product page marks the BRV123-BL-GMT/SST unavailable or sold out. The official BR 123 Heritage listing surfaced in search is also marked unavailable. These page statuses do not establish what is in stock elsewhere, and they provide no basis for a current new or pre-owned price estimate.
If searching for one, use the complete reference where possible and compare the actual watch’s dial, movement, functions, case dimensions, strap and condition. The sources here do not support a like-for-like market-value comparison or a claim about production numbers or resale values.

How to check a replacement strap
Do not assume that every Vintage 123 takes the same strap. The documented examples include leather, black calfskin and woven rubber, and the available specifications do not establish a universal strap width or attachment standard.
