Its layered dial, vivid GMT and seconds hands, and compact 39.5 mm case make a distinctive combination. One specification needs care: the review’s body names an ETA 2893-2 movement for its sample, while its own specification table lists a Sellita SW330-1.
Why the dial makes the Lander II distinctive
Weppelink recounts that his first reaction to the review sample was, “That’s a blue dial isn’t it?” He says the sea-green character became clearer in the morning light. That shifting impression is central to the watch’s appeal in his review: the dial’s color is not simply a fixed teal backdrop, but a sunray finish whose appearance changes with the light. Fratello’s April 2, 2020 review describes the dial in detail; Farer’s history of the Lander GMT also recounts how the design developed.
The dial uses a triple-step construction, with white or ghost-white luminous numerals and silver syringe-style hour and minute hands. A red 24-hour GMT hand adds another strong color, while the orange seconds hand ends in Farer’s distinctive “A” tip. At 3 o’clock, the date window and wheel are color-matched to the dial rather than set off as a contrasting white rectangle. The result is a colorful display, but Weppelink found it balanced rather than cluttered and reported good readability. He also praised the lume in darkness; the review does not describe standardized lume testing.
Farer says the color began with inspiration from a 1950s Porsche 356 color chart, then evolved into a teal base with a sunray effect. That is the brand’s account of its design process, not independent evidence of historical provenance.

How the GMT display works—and what is established
The Lander II uses an internal GMT display: its second-time-zone hand reads against a 24-hour scale, without an external rotating bezel. Farer’s history says the Lander line debuted in 2017 and describes it as an internal GMT. Farer’s current Lander IV product page explains that the local hour and minute hands use 12-hour time and that the GMT hand is independently adjustable. That is useful context for the later Lander IV, but it does not establish every setting detail for the Lander II. The 2020 review says the hand indicates a second time zone, but does not provide model-specific operating instructions.
The movement discrepancy in the 2020 review
There is no single unambiguous movement specification in the Fratello article. In the review’s body, Weppelink says the Lander II he received was powered by an ETA 2893-2. In the article’s appended specification table, the Lander II is listed with a Sellita SW330-1. The body further says Farer changed to the Sellita SW330-1 for the following Lander III run. These statements conflict, so the article supports reporting the review sample as ETA 2893-2 according to its narrative, while also disclosing that its table says SW330-1. It does not resolve the movement fitted to every Lander II or to any particular watch today; a serial-specific claim would need documentation for that example.

Farer’s account says successive Lander generations received movement and power-reserve upgrades. It identifies the current Lander IV as using a Sellita SW330-2 Top Grade with a stated 56-hour power reserve. Those are Lander IV specifications, not a correction to the conflicting Lander II entry.
Lander II dimensions and construction
The 2020 review’s specification list gives the Lander II a polished stainless-steel case measuring 39.5 mm in diameter, 10 mm thick, with 20 mm between the lugs. It also lists a boxed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, display caseback, 100 m water resistance, and tan Barenia leather strap. Weppelink says the watch wore comfortably, a personal assessment rather than the result of a standardized fit test.

Generation matters when comparing those figures with Farer’s current watch. The US Lander IV page lists a 39.5 mm diameter, 10.8 mm depth, 45 mm lug-to-lug, 20 mm lug width, and 100 m water resistance, along with a screw-down crown and monobloc mid-case. These details describe the successor, not the Lander II; the review does not give a Lander II lug-to-lug measurement.
Price, availability, and what the old review can tell you
The €1,325 figure in the Fratello article refers to the then-upcoming Lander III production run discussed in 2020. It is neither a Lander II launch price established by that line nor a current Lander II resale quote. Current Lander II availability, used prices, and condition are not established here. Farer’s current product page is for the Lander IV, a different generation, so it should not be treated as a live Lander II listing.

Farer later reproduced the review’s favorable line that, “At this price point, it is very hard to find any other watch that can compete with the Lander based on good looks and technical features.” That is the Fratello review’s assessment as quoted by the brand, and its price-point context is historical—not a present-day market comparison. Based on Weppelink’s review, the Lander II is especially appealing to someone who wants a compact automatic GMT with a vivid, unconventional dial rather than a restrained instrument-style face. Its color-matched date and distinctive hands make the display expressive, while the reviewer found the layout readable and balanced. Those are his hands-on impressions, not independent tests by WatchRanker. Buyers evaluating an individual used example should verify its movement, condition, and included strap details directly rather than infer them from the article’s conflicting movement entries.
