The company previewed the Quark AI Glasses in July 2025, began selling the Quark G1 and S1 on November 27, 2025, and introduced newer Qwen Glasses in 2026. The strategy combines Qwen AI with Alibaba services such as Taobao, Alipay, Amap and Fliggy.
That chronology matters: Quark, Qwen Glasses and Alibaba’s later “agent glasses” platform are related, but they are not interchangeable names for one product.

What Alibaba unveiled
Alibaba first publicly previewed the Quark AI Glasses at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai on July 26, 2025. The product family later launched in mainland China on November 27, 2025.
The original range has two main models:
- Quark G1: the lighter, lower-priced model without the S1’s display.
- Quark S1: the premium model with a monochrome green micro-display and additional processing hardware.
Alibaba subsequently introduced Qwen Glasses at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2026. Alibaba describes these as its first fully self-developed smart wearable integrating hardware and software. In July 2026, the company outlined a broader “agent glasses” direction involving third-party AI skills and more proactive interaction. Those announcements should be treated as later product and platform developments, not as specifications confirmed for every Quark G1 or S1.

SCMP reported on Alibaba’s July 2025 preview, while launch coverage confirmed the November 2025 China release.
Quark G1 vs. S1: price and key differences
| Model | Launch price in mainland China | Display | Positioning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quark G1 | From ¥1,899 | No S1-style display | Lighter, lower-cost AI glasses |
| Quark S1 | From ¥3,799 | Monochrome green micro-display | Premium model with display and dual-chip architecture |
Launch coverage rendered those prices at approximately US$268 for the G1 and US$537 for the S1. Those are approximate currency conversions, not U.S. retail prices. Alibaba has not established a confirmed U.S. launch price or official U.S. purchase channel in the available information.
The S1 reportedly uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 processor alongside a low-power coprocessor. Both models include cameras, microphones and open-ear or bone-conduction-style audio hardware, depending on the model and description. A media-reported battery estimate suggested swappable batteries rated for up to 24 hours, but actual runtime will depend heavily on camera use, display activity, wireless connectivity and cloud AI.

Alibaba and launch reports have not established a complete, independently verified specification sheet covering camera resolution, storage, exact weight, display resolution, field of view, IP rating, charging method, wireless standards or prescription-lens compatibility. Buyers should not assume those details from general smart-glasses listings.
What the glasses can do
Alibaba positions the glasses as a voice-controlled interface to Qwen AI and its wider service ecosystem. Announced or reported use cases include:
- Answering questions through voice interaction.
- Hands-free calls and music playback.
- Real-time language translation.
- Meeting transcription and notes.
- Navigation and location assistance.
- Point-of-view photo or video capture.
- Recognising products and checking prices through Taobao.
- Accessing Alibaba services including Alipay, Amap and Fliggy.
- Display-based contextual information on applicable models such as the S1.
These are announced capabilities, not a substitute for independent testing. “Real-time translation,” for example, does not guarantee every language pair, offline operation, low latency or accurate performance in noise. Likewise, a quoted battery figure is not a guarantee of a full day of intensive recording, display use and AI requests.

Why Qwen is central to the product
Qwen is Alibaba’s family of large language and multimodal AI models. In the glasses strategy, Qwen supplies the assistant layer while Alibaba’s apps and services supply actions and commercial context.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Alibaba said the Qwen App connects with services including Taobao, Taobao Instant Commerce, Alipay, Fliggy and Amap. The company also said Qwen was connected to Taobao’s product catalogue so users in China could browse, compare, order products and manage deliveries conversationally.
That makes Alibaba’s approach different from simply placing a chatbot in a pair of glasses. The intended device is an interface for commerce, payments, maps, travel and eventually third-party agents. Alibaba’s official descriptions of Qwen App integrations and Taobao-wide Qwen shopping functions provide the relevant context.
Qwen Glasses and the “agent glasses” direction
At MWC 2026, Alibaba presented Qwen Glasses as a newer, more globally oriented smart-eyewear push. Reported features include proactive services, point-of-view recording, spatial 3D display, voice cloning and simultaneous interpretation. Presales began in China on March 2, with official sales reported from March 8.
Alibaba’s July 2026 update described a further move toward glasses that can use third-party skills and AI agents. Planned or developing functions include full-duplex voice interaction, eye tracking and biometric sensing.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Before an agent places an order, initiates a payment or shares information with a third-party skill, users need clear confirmation controls, an audit trail and a way to reverse mistakes. Alibaba’s update is best understood as a platform direction rather than proof that every such function is available on the original Quark retail models. Alibaba versus Meta’s smart glasses
Alibaba is a credible competitor to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, but the comparison should not be framed as a settled victory for either company.
| Category | Alibaba Quark/Qwen approach | Meta Ray-Ban approach |
|---|---|---|
| Core strategy | Qwen AI connected to commerce, payments, maps and travel | Camera, open-ear audio, voice assistance and general consumer AI |
| Display | Quark S1 includes a reported monochrome display | Ray-Ban Meta models are primarily camera-and-audio glasses |
| Regional strength | Mainland-China services and accounts | More established international consumer distribution |
| Distinctive use case | Product recognition, Alibaba transactions and China-focused lifestyle services | Hands-free capture, calls, music and general-purpose assistant features |
Alibaba’s potential advantage is not merely access to an AI model. It is the ability to connect the glasses to shopping, payments, navigation and travel. That advantage is also a limitation: much of the value depends on China-specific services, accounts and infrastructure.
For readers seeking a mainstream international camera-and-audio wearable, Ray-Ban Meta is likely the more practical comparison. Readers primarily interested in a private visual display may find XREAL more relevant, although XREAL’s products generally target display and spatial computing rather than Alibaba-style commerce agents.
Availability outside China
U.S. availability
No confirmed U.S. retail launch, official U.S. purchase channel, U.S. support policy or U.S. warranty terms have been established for the original Quark models in the available sources. A showcase at MWC Barcelona does not by itself prove broad European or U.S. retail availability.
Do not assume that an imported China-market unit will support U.S. services, language settings, payments, app stores, network functionality or local warranty coverage.
The same caution applies to Qwen Glasses. Initial presales and sales were reported in China, while international product exposure should not be confused with international retail distribution. Alibaba’s official product information is the safest reference point until local sales channels are confirmed.

Practical limitations and privacy risks
China-region dependence
Outside mainland China, buyers may lose access to the features that make Alibaba’s glasses distinctive. Taobao, Alipay, Amap, Fliggy and Qwen functions may require China-region accounts, supported languages or region-specific infrastructure. Hardware that can be imported is not necessarily hardware that can be fully used.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Battery and display trade-offs
The S1 display can make navigation and contextual information more useful, but it can also add cost, weight, optical complexity and power consumption. Camera recording, continuous listening, wireless connections and cloud AI can reduce runtime substantially compared with standby or light-use estimates.
Privacy and consent
Camera-equipped glasses can record bystanders, workplaces, classrooms and private spaces without everyone around the wearer knowing. Before using them, check recording indicators, venue rules and workplace or school policies. Buyers should also determine whether images and audio are stored locally, sent to a phone or uploaded for cloud processing, and whether recording or wake-word detection can be disabled.
AI-agent safeguards
As glasses gain access to third-party skills and transactions, users should ask:
- Which actions require explicit confirmation?
- Can the assistant place orders or make payments autonomously?
- How are mistaken actions reversed?
- Which third parties receive voice, image or location data?
- Can a malicious skill access the camera or microphone?
Who should consider Alibaba’s glasses?
- Mainland-China users who already rely on Taobao, Alipay, Amap, Fliggy and Qwen.
- Early adopters interested in display-equipped AI eyewear.
- Developers, researchers and businesses tracking agentic interfaces and wearable computing.
Who should wait?
- U.S. buyers who require official local warranty and repair support.
- People who need broad English-language and international app integration.
- Users who do not use Alibaba’s services.
- Privacy-sensitive buyers uncomfortable with always-available cameras and microphones.
- Anyone seeking a conventional AR headset with broad app support rather than a voice-and-commerce assistant.
Bottom line
Alibaba’s Quark AI Glasses are a mainland-China product launch, not merely a future announcement. The G1 and S1 combine Qwen-powered assistance with Alibaba’s unusually deep links to shopping, payments, maps and travel. The later Qwen Glasses and agent-glasses announcements show the company expanding that idea into a broader wearable AI platform.
Recommended Free Tools
The opportunity is strongest for users already inside Alibaba’s Chinese ecosystem. For most U.S. buyers, the unresolved questions around retail availability, regional software support, language compatibility, warranty service and privacy make an imported unit a risky purchase rather than a straightforward alternative to Meta’s smart glasses.
