The Alsta Nautoscaph Superautomatic 2025 is the anniversary-era version of the watch associated with Matt Hooper in JAWS. It pairs a compact 38 mm case with a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and a manufacturer-stated 300 m water-resistance rating. It is not the same watch as Alsta’s earlier limited 1970 re-edition, which used a Seiko movement.
What the 2025 Alsta Nautoscaph Superautomatic is
Alsta presents the 2025 Superautomatic as a Swiss-made reimagining for the 50th anniversary of JAWS. The brand identifies the original Superautomatic as the watch worn by Matt Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss, in the film. The anniversary model retains that cultural connection while updating the movement, profile and clasp. Alsta’s 2025 model page describes the anniversary design and its specifications.
When reading older reviews or listings, check the edition name and publication date. The earlier Superautomatic 1970 re-edition is a separate release, not a specification source for the 2025 watch.

How the case dimensions may wear
A 38 mm diameter is relatively compact by many contemporary dive-watch standards, while the 43 mm lug-to-lug measurement gives a useful second indication of how much wrist space the case spans. The 13.2 mm thickness is more consequential for sleeve clearance and how tall the watch feels. Those numbers do not settle fit on their own: wrist shape, strap or bracelet, and the cushion-style case profile affect how it sits.

- WATER-RESISTANT: these water-resistant men's dive watches are ISO scuba-approved to depths of 200 meters
- AUTOMATIC: these self-winding, automatic men's watches are powered by your movement, with a power reserve of 41 hours
- STAINLESS STEEL: features a durable 43.8mm stainless steel watch case and bracelet.
- LUMIBRITE DISPLAY: this men's automatic watch features a highly-legible display with LumiBrite hands and markers
- 4R35 CALIBER: equipped with the reliable caliber 4R35 automatic movement, this accurate men's watch keeps precise time
The hands-on observations available for the earlier re-edition describe its 38 mm case as compact in diameter but tall in appearance, with wrist presence from its cushion case. That is useful context for the design, not a direct assessment of the 2025 model’s fit; the 2025 version has a thinner profile according to Alsta.
Movement and performance claims
The 2025 model is listed with a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. Alsta publishes a 38-hour power reserve and accuracy of ±12 seconds per day, alongside 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not results from independent timekeeping tests. The brand also describes the movement as ISO 764 anti-magnetic and shock-resistant.

The older 1970 re-edition used a Seiko NH35A instead. Do not apply that movement, or older edition-specific performance details, to the 2025 watch.
Is the 300 m rating an ISO-certified dive-watch claim?
Alsta states water resistance of 999 ft, 300 m or 30 ATM for the 2025 model. A depth rating is not by itself proof that the watch has been formally certified to ISO 6425. The available model information does not establish formal ISO 6425 certification for the 2025 edition, so treat the 300 m figure as Alsta’s published rating rather than a certification claim.

The certification caveat in The Lost Spring Bar’s hands-on review applies to the earlier re-edition it reviewed. It should not be carried over as a definitive certification finding about the 2025 model.

Quick Recap
What to consider before buying
- Check the edition. Verify that a listing is for the 2025 Superautomatic if you expect the Sellita SW200-1, rather than the older NH35A re-edition.
- Assess fit using all three dimensions. Compare the 38 mm diameter, 43 mm lug-to-lug and 13.2 mm thickness with a watch you already wear; the case shape also matters.
- Read the water-resistance claim precisely. The 2025 model is rated by Alsta at 300 m / 30 ATM, but formal ISO 6425 certification is not established in the cited model information.
- Check strap compatibility. Alsta describes a bracelet and an Orca rubber strap, and lists 20 mm lugs. Confirm fit for the exact variant before buying a separate strap.
- Confirm local terms. Check the regional seller for current price, availability, warranty and service details rather than relying on historical coverage.
