The original Amazfit GTS is a lightweight square-screen smartwatch with built-in GPS, basic fitness tracking and a bright AMOLED display. It can still suit someone who wants simple watch and workout functions at a very low used price—but Zepp Health now lists it as end of life, with no ongoing software, firmware or security updates. Treat it as an obsolete device, not a supported current smartwatch.
Which Amazfit GTS is this?
“Amazfit GTS” without a generation number normally means the first-generation watch introduced in 2019. It is distinct from the GTS 2, GTS 2e, GTS 2 mini, GTS 3 and GTS 4. Used listings sometimes omit the generation, so verify the model before buying rather than relying on the product title.
The original has a 1.65-inch rectangular AMOLED screen with 348 × 442 resolution, a 43.25 × 36.25 × 9.4 mm case, and weighs about 24.8 g without its strap. These identifiers and the full specifications are on Amazfit’s original GTS specifications page.

What the watch does well
Lightweight design and display
The GTS is slim and light enough for all-day wear, and its AMOLED panel remains one of its most appealing features. Independent reviews praised its screen, appearance and comfort. Its always-on display is useful if you want to glance at the time, but it can sharply reduce battery life; Tech Advisor’s review observed a dramatic drop after enabling the feature.

Basic fitness and GPS
The watch tracks steps, activity, sleep, calories and heart rate, offers sports modes, and can record outdoor activity using its own GPS and GLONASS rather than relying on a phone’s location. That is enough for casual walks and runs, although GPS recording uses more battery and the watch does not provide modern offline maps or dual-band positioning.
Older reviewers did not reach a uniformly positive verdict on tracking. Wareable found GPS close to a reference device in a 10K test, while Android Authority reported step-tracking discrepancies. Business Standard described GPS as good and heart-rate accuracy as satisfactory. Consider its readings approximate, especially in interval or strength workouts, with poor sensor contact, or during unusual movement.
Heart-rate, sleep, step, calorie and other wellness readings are estimates for general fitness use, not medical diagnoses. The presence of an optical heart-rate sensor does not establish ECG, blood-pressure, blood-oxygen or clinical-grade monitoring.

Water resistance—with an age-related caveat
Amazfit rates the watch at 5 ATM, a specification suitable for surface swimming under appropriate conditions, but not scuba diving or high-pressure water activities. On a used watch, age, impact, damage or prior repair may have weakened the seal. Treat the rating as a historical specification, not a guarantee that an individual second-hand unit is safe to swim with.
Where the original GTS falls short
It is a fitness watch, not a modern app-based smartwatch
The GTS mirrors selected phone notifications and offers basic phone-related functions such as music controls. It does not run watchOS or Wear OS, offer a comparable third-party app ecosystem, or provide the interactive messaging and phone integration expected from many current smartwatches. Its original software also should not be confused with the features of later Zepp OS devices.
Notification delivery can be inconsistent. Digital Trends reported missed notifications despite testing multiple phones and setup changes, and Tech Advisor characterized notification support as basic. Current phone permissions and background-app restrictions can add further friction.

Battery claims need context
Amazfit claimed up to 14 days in a typical-use scenario and up to 46 days in basic watch mode; it also listed about two hours to charge. The typical-use scenario included always-on heart-rate and sleep monitoring, 150 notifications a day, wrist raises and other screen use, plus three GPS workouts per week. Those are manufacturer figures under specified conditions, not guaranteed results for every owner. Always-on display, frequent GPS, settings and notification volume affect runtime.
In 2026, the condition of the particular battery matters more than its original rating. A heavily used battery may last far less than new. The watch’s proprietary magnetic charger is another practical dependency, so confirm that the correct charger is included.
Software support and phone compatibility in 2026
Zepp Health’s security-update and end-of-life list includes the original Amazfit GTS. Zepp says listed products no longer receive software or firmware updates, including security updates, and may no longer receive responses to vulnerability reports. End of life does not mean the watch stops working immediately; it means official maintenance has ended, and continued operation is not guaranteed.

The original product page’s Android 5.0 and iOS 10 minimums are historical. A later update to Amazfit’s Japanese product page listed Android 7.0 or iOS 12.0 minimums, illustrating that requirements changed by region and over time (Amazfit Japan’s GTS page). Neither set of old requirements proves reliable operation with every current phone, operating system or Zepp app version. Test pairing and essential functions before relying on the watch.

- Charge and turn on the watch.
- Install the current Zepp app from the phone’s official app store, then sign in or create an account.
- In Zepp, add the watch from the device screen and follow the prompt to scan its pairing QR code or select the GTS.
- Grant the Bluetooth, notification and background-operation permissions the phone requests. On Android, allow Zepp to run in the background; Amazfit’s manual describes this requirement.
- Let the initial synchronization finish. Check for any firmware update offered by the app, then configure notification sources, health permissions, units and watch faces.
- Test a notification and a GPS activity before depending on either function.
If pairing fails, remove an existing GTS entry from the phone’s Bluetooth settings and pair from inside Zepp, not from the phone’s Bluetooth menu. Restart both devices, check Bluetooth and any required location permissions, and disable Android battery optimization for Zepp. Keep the app running during synchronization. If the watch belonged to someone else, ask the previous owner to unbind it from their Zepp account. Factory-reset only after considering unsynchronized data; reinstall Zepp if needed. An app, account or server-side setup problem may be a lifecycle limitation rather than a hardware fault.
Used-buying checklist
- Confirm the generation: Check for the original 1.65-inch screen and the specifications above; do not assume a listing labeled “GTS” is a GTS 2, 3 or 4.
- Check battery behavior: Ask for a video or screenshot showing the percentage after several hours of normal use, rather than relying on “battery is good.” Watch for sudden drops, overnight drain, reboots, failure to reach full charge or excessive heat.
- Verify charging: Confirm the magnetic two-pin charger is included and holds a connection without needing to be angled. A replacement battery is not a routine consumer repair and may not be economical.
- Check account binding: Ask the seller to unbind the watch from their Zepp account and reset it before shipment; otherwise setup may be difficult or impossible.
- Inspect the screen and controls: Look for scratches, display defects, worn coatings, loose buttons and case damage.
- Test GPS and notifications: If possible, record a short outdoor activity and confirm the phone alerts you expect arrive.
- Be cautious around water: Do not swim with a second-hand unit whose seal history is unknown.
- Prefer a return option: Pairing, charging and battery issues may not be visible in listing photos.
For charging or GPS trouble, clean and realign the magnetic charger and allow the watch time to acquire a GPS lock before starting an activity. Buildings, tree cover, a low battery and movement during acquisition can affect GPS. Because the model is end of life, a persistent firmware-update failure may not receive an official fix.

For a broader selection of newer Amazfit products, check the official US shop; availability varies by model and region. If app ecosystems, calls, messages or payments matter more than battery life, an Apple Watch for iPhone or a Galaxy Watch or other Wear OS watch is a more appropriate category to compare. Choose based on the phone you use and the specific functions you need.

Consider it only if

- You accept that software and security support have ended, and can test current phone compatibility before relying on it.
Skip it if
- You need security updates, dependable long-term phone compatibility or a device that will receive fixes.
- You want a deep app ecosystem, interactive messaging, voice calling, NFC payments, cellular service, modern training analysis or advanced GPS.
- You need medical-grade measurements or plan to swim with a used unit of unknown seal condition.
- Its price approaches that of a newer, supported smartwatch.
