The yellow circle on an Apple Watch status area means Low Power Mode is on. To remove it, press the side button, tap the battery percentage in Control Center, then turn off Low Power Mode. It is a normal setting indicator—not a warning that your watch is damaged.
Turn off the yellow circle in Control Center
- Press the Apple Watch’s side button to open Control Center. This is the current path in Apple’s watchOS 26 guide; Control Center access can differ on older watchOS versions. Apple’s Control Center guide
- Tap the battery percentage button.
- Turn Low Power Mode off.
The yellow status icon should disappear. The battery percentage control, charging animation, and Nightstand time can also appear yellow while Low Power Mode is active. Apple’s Low Power Mode guide
Turn it off in Settings instead
If you cannot find the battery control, or want to check the setting directly, open Settings > Battery on the watch and turn off Low Power Mode. Menu presentation may vary on older watchOS versions. Apple’s instructions
If the yellow circle appears during a workout
Apple Watch has a separate workout setting that can enable Low Power Mode when a workout begins. Turning off the general setting may not prevent it from coming back during exercise.

- Open Settings on the watch.
- Tap Workout.
- Turn off Low Power Mode if you do not want it enabled for workouts.
Workout measurements such as heart rate and pace may still be available in Low Power Mode, but other features can be reduced. Apple’s Low Power Mode guide
Why Low Power Mode turned on
- You enabled it manually: It can be turned on from Control Center or Settings.
- The battery reached 10%: Apple Watch can display a prompt asking whether to turn on Low Power Mode.
- A workout began: The workout-specific setting may activate it automatically.
Low Power Mode usually turns off automatically when the watch reaches 80% charge, unless you selected a fixed duration. Apple’s choices are On for 1 Day, On for 2 Days, and On for 3 Days, so charging to 80% may not end a selected duration immediately. Apple’s Low Power Mode guide

What changes while it is on
Low Power Mode reduces power use by limiting or disabling some functions. The exact effect depends on the watch model, connection state, and activity. Apple lists these possible changes:
- Always On display is disabled.
- Background heart-rate measurements, including during sleep, and background blood-oxygen measurements may be disabled.
- Some heart-rate notifications and hypertension-notification heart-data collection may be disabled.
- Double Tap and wrist-flick gestures, Start Workout reminders, and Time in Daylight may be disabled.
- Background app refresh and complication updates happen less often; Siri can respond more slowly, and animations or scrolling may be less smooth.
- Some Wi-Fi and cellular behavior can be limited when the iPhone is not nearby; calls may take longer and notifications may be delayed in some circumstances.
Turning the mode off restores normal behavior for the affected features, but uses more power than leaving it on. If you only want to reduce battery use without keeping Low Power Mode enabled, Apple also lets you adjust background app refresh at Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Yellow circle or another Apple Watch indicator?
Shape and location matter: the small yellow status icon is different from other colored indicators and controls. Apple’s status-icon reference identifies the Low Power Mode symbol. Apple Watch status icons

If what you see is orange rather than yellow, or its shape differs from a circle, do not assume it is Low Power Mode. Compare its shape and location with Apple’s status-icon guide.

If the yellow circle will not go away
- Open Control Center and check whether Low Power Mode is off.
- Check Settings > Battery to confirm the same setting.
- If it appears only during exercise, check Settings > Workout > Low Power Mode.
- End the current workout if one is active, then close Control Center and wake the watch again.
- If the icon remains while the setting is off, restart the Apple Watch.
- If it is still present after restarting, compare the symbol with Apple’s status-icon reference or contact Apple Support.
You do not need to erase, unpair, or repair the watch just because this icon appears.
