Christmas 2026 looks unlikely as a time to buy Apple smart glasses. Reporting attributed to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman says Apple’s earlier plan for an end-of-2026 introduction and early-2027 shipping was replaced by a goal of launching at the end of 2027. A possible June 2027 WWDC unveiling has also been reported, but Apple has not announced a product or launch date.
“Apple Glass” is a shorthand used in coverage, not a confirmed product name. The reported first version is closer to camera-and-audio smart glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta than to display-equipped augmented-reality glasses. These details remain reports about a product in development, not Apple specifications.
Apple Glass release date: the latest reported timeline
The end-of-2026 date was part of an earlier reported plan, not an Apple commitment. The May 2026 report described a plan to introduce the glasses at the end of 2026 and ship them by early 2027; subsequent reporting described a revised end-of-2027 target. A possible reveal and the date customers can buy a product are not necessarily the same.
| Date | What was reported | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| May 31, 2026 | 9to5Mac, relaying Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, reported that Apple’s initial plan was an end-of-2026 introduction and early-2027 shipment, and that the target had moved to the end of 2027. | A reported change to an internal target, not a public commitment. |
| July 26, 2026 | TechCrunch reported a possible June 2027 WWDC unveiling and availability by the end of 2027. | A reported unveiling window and availability target, both unconfirmed. |
| September 15, 2026 | 9to5Mac’s roundup of Gurman’s expectations placed smart glasses among products expected later in 2027. | Further reporting consistent with a later-2027 window. |
| September 27, 2026 | AppleInsider described an end-of-2027 goal, attributing it to Gurman’s Bloomberg newsletter. | Another report of a target, not an Apple-announced date. |
Best current estimate: Apple smart glasses are unlikely to be available by Christmas 2026; the latest reporting points to a possible introduction in 2027 and a target of availability by the end of that year. Plans can change, and Apple has not confirmed either date.

Has Apple officially announced Apple Glass?
No. Apple has not announced a product called Apple Glass or confirmed that it will sell these rumored smart glasses. The name and product descriptions in reports should not be treated as an Apple product page, launch announcement, or final specification.
It is also important not to conflate the reported first glasses with a later display-equipped augmented-reality product. The current reports describe the first version as camera-and-audio eyewear without a display providing video feedback. A display-equipped version is described only as a later possibility.
What Apple is reportedly developing
Reports attributed to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman describe an initial product closer to the AI smart-glasses category than to a full augmented-reality headset. The reported direction is eyewear with camera and audio capabilities. Apple has not confirmed the design, features, or product name.
Reported direction
- Camera and audio: Reports describe camera and audio capabilities, but do not establish final hardware or functions.
- No display in the first version: The reporting describes the initial glasses as lacking a display that provides video feedback.
- Privacy: TechCrunch reported that privacy concerns and messaging were part of the development challenge. Reported privacy-oriented ideas are not confirmed safeguards or specifications.
These are descriptions of reported development direction, not a finalized feature list. Apple could change the product before any launch.

Will Apple Glass have an augmented-reality display?
Do not assume the first reported Apple smart glasses will have an AR display. The reports describe an initial camera-and-audio product without a display providing video feedback. A display-equipped product is only a later possibility in the reporting, not a confirmed Apple roadmap.
That distinction matters: camera-and-audio glasses and display-equipped AR glasses are different product categories. Apple has not announced either product, its specifications, or when a display-equipped version might arrive.
Ray-Ban Meta is a category comparison, not an Apple preview
Ray-Ban Meta is a useful category comparison for readers considering camera-and-audio smart glasses now. The research supports using it as a comparator, but does not verify a particular retailer listing, price, stock status, or compatibility with Apple’s rumored product.
If you are considering an alternative while waiting, check the exact model and listing, availability, and privacy controls before buying. Do not treat a current alternative as an Apple product or as evidence of what Apple will ship.

Why the timeline may have moved
TechCrunch’s July 2026 report said privacy concerns were part of the reported delay and discussed possible privacy-oriented choices, including on-device processing and no facial recognition. These are attributed reports about possible design decisions, not verified Apple commitments. They should not be described as confirmed features or shipped protections.
Camera-equipped glasses raise questions about when recording is apparent and how a company communicates privacy protections. Apple has not published its rules, controls, or technical approach for a glasses product.

To distinguish a reported target from a confirmed launch, look for:
- An Apple announcement: Apple would need to confirm the product, name, features, and availability.
- WWDC 2027: Reporting has described a possible June unveiling, but this is a watch date, not a promise.
- Confirmed availability details: A launch date or customer shipping information would clarify when buyers could actually get the product.
- Official privacy information: Look for Apple’s explanation of recording indicators, controls, and data handling rather than treating reported design intentions as guarantees.
Until Apple makes an announcement, treat the product name, timeline, and features as unconfirmed. The reporting supports “unlikely by Christmas 2026,” not “impossible” or “confirmed for 2027.”

- Compare current products carefully: Ray-Ban Meta is a category comparator, but verify the specific model, listing, availability, and privacy features.
- Wait for official details: Apple has not confirmed a price, feature list, privacy controls, or product name.
