Apple Watch Series 10 arrived on September 20, 2024, after its September 9 announcement. It introduced a slimmer case, larger 42mm and 46mm sizes, a brighter wide-angle OLED display, faster charging, sleep apnea notifications, and built-in depth and water-temperature sensing.
It is no longer part of Apple’s main U.S. lineup, which now consists of Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. That makes Series 10 a previous-generation model, but it remains a strong option when found at a sensible price through remaining stock, resale, or Apple Certified Refurbished listings. It also remains compatible with watchOS 26.

The original U.S. launch price was $399. Series 10 is now a previous-generation watch, so its current price depends on condition, seller, case material, connectivity, and remaining stock rather than Apple’s former launch price.
Design, case sizes, and finishes
Series 10 is nearly 10 percent thinner than Series 7, Series 8, and Series 9. The redesigned metal back incorporates the antenna into the housing, helping Apple reduce the overall thickness without abandoning the familiar square watch design.

The case sizes changed from the 41mm and 45mm options used by earlier generations to 42mm and 46mm. This is worth checking when buying a replacement case or screen protector, although existing 41mm and 45mm bands remain compatible with the corresponding Series 10 sizes.
Available materials and colors
- Aluminum: Jet Black, Rose Gold, and Silver.
- Titanium: Slate, Gold, and Natural.
Aluminum versions use Ion-X front glass. Titanium versions have sapphire front crystal, which is more resistant to scratches. Both are available with GPS or GPS + Cellular configurations, depending on the specific model being sold.
Display: larger, brighter, and easier to read at an angle
Series 10 uses an LTPO3 OLED Always-On Retina display with a wide-angle OLED design. Apple rates it for up to 2,000 nits of maximum brightness, with a minimum brightness of 1 nit. The panel has a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch.
The notable change is not only the extra display area. Apple says the screen can appear up to 40 percent brighter when viewed at an angle. That makes it easier to glance at the time, workout metrics, or a notification without turning the watch directly toward your face.

The 46mm version gives you 1,220 square millimeters of display area, compared with 989 square millimeters on the 42mm model. Choose the 46mm if reading messages and workout data is a priority; the 42mm is the less conspicuous option for smaller wrists.
Performance, storage, and connectivity
Inside is Apple’s S10 SiP, with a 64-bit dual-core processor and four-core Neural Engine. Series 10 has 64GB of storage, enough for apps, downloaded music, podcasts, and offline content.
Other hardware includes:
- Digital Crown with haptic feedback.
- Double Tap gesture support.
- On-device Siri processing.
- Second-generation Ultra Wideband chip.
- Bluetooth 5.3.
- Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n).
- GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou positioning.
- Optional LTE and UMTS cellular connectivity.
GPS models are best suited to users who normally carry an iPhone. GPS + Cellular models can handle supported calls, messages, streaming, and emergency functions away from the phone when an active carrier plan is available. Cellular capability does not make Series 10 an Android-compatible smartwatch: Apple Watch pairs only with an iPhone.

Battery life and fast charging
Apple rates Series 10 for up to 18 hours of normal use and up to 36 hours with Low Power Mode enabled. Actual runtime varies considerably. Cellular activity, poor signal, GPS workouts, music playback, frequent notifications, and cold temperatures can all reduce it.

Health and fitness features
Series 10 combines the third-generation optical heart sensor with an electrical heart sensor and a range of health and safety functions:
- ECG app.
- High- and low-heart-rate notifications.
- Irregular-rhythm notifications.
- Wrist-temperature sensing.
- Cycle Tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates.
- Sleep tracking and sleep stages.
- Sleep apnea notifications.
- Vitals app.
- Noise monitoring.
- Fall Detection and Crash Detection.
- Blood Oxygen hardware and app support, subject to regional restrictions.
The ECG app is intended for people aged 22 and over. Irregular-rhythm notifications are not intended for people under 22 or for people already diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. These features provide health information and are not a substitute for medical advice.
Sleep apnea notifications
Series 10 looks for breathing disturbances during sleep and can issue a possible sleep apnea notification when the pattern shows consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea. The evaluation takes 30 days, and Apple says the watch must be worn for at least 10 nights during that period.
The feature is intended for adults aged 18 or older who have not already been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It does not diagnose or treat the condition, and receiving no notification does not prove that sleep apnea is absent.
To set it up on a current iPhone:
- Open Health.
- Tap Search.
- Choose Respiratory.
- Under Sleep Apnea Notifications, tap Set Up.
- Tap Next, confirm your date of birth and diagnosis status, then tap Continue, Next, and Done.
On some versions of the Health app, the same option appears under Health → profile picture or initials → Health Checklist → Set Up below Sleep Apnea Notifications.

Review collected data at Health → Search → Respiratory → Breathing Disturbances. To switch the feature off, use Health → profile picture or initials → Health Checklist → Sleep Apnea Notifications, then turn off Sleep Apnea Notifications.
No result or an unavailable setup option can have several explanations: too little sleep data, Track Sleep with Apple Watch being disabled, age or diagnosis restrictions, or regional availability.
Wrist-temperature tracking
Wrist temperature is primarily useful for tracking changes over time rather than taking a one-off temperature reading. Wear the watch to bed with sleep tracking enabled and Sleep Focus turned on. Apple says it needs at least four hours of sleep tracking per night, with data becoming available after approximately five nights.
Find the results on iPhone at Health → Search → Body Measurements → Wrist Temperature. To disable it on the watch, use Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Wrist Temperature. You can also use Watch app → My Watch → Privacy on the iPhone.
Blood Oxygen restrictions in the United States
U.S. Series 10 watches purchased on or after January 18, 2024, with part numbers ending in LW/A have a different Blood Oxygen experience. The sensors may still be present, but analysis is performed on the paired iPhone and results are viewed in the iPhone Health app. Apple introduced this behavior through watchOS 11.6.1 for affected U.S. Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2 models.
Blood Oxygen readings are intended for general wellness, not medical use. Availability and behavior vary by market, so the country of purchase matters when comparing used watches.

Swimming, water resistance, and depth sensing
Series 10 is water resistant to 50 meters under ISO standard 22810:2010 and is IP6X dust resistant. It is suitable for shallow-water activities such as pool and ocean swimming. A water-temperature sensor and depth gauge add useful information for swimmers and surface-water activities.

The Depth app supports a maximum depth of 6 meters (20 feet). It can show current depth, time underwater, water temperature, and maximum depth. Summaries can be reviewed in the Fitness app on iPhone.
Series 10 is not a dive computer. Do not use it for scuba diving, water skiing, high-velocity water activities, or submersion below shallow depths. It does not provide decompression-stop information, gas analysis, or recreational scuba functions.
Water resistance can decline after an impact or with age. Apple advises avoiding soap, solvents, detergents, perfume, lotions, sunscreen, oils, steam rooms, and high-velocity water. Do not treat the 50-meter rating as a guarantee that the watch is safe in every water environment.

Series 10 launched with watchOS 11. That software introduced the Vitals app, Training Load, more flexible Activity ring controls, sleep apnea notifications, interactive Smart Stack widgets, Check In, the Translate app, new Photos watch-face capabilities, and additional pregnancy-related Cycle Tracking features.
Double Tap can also be used to scroll through supported apps such as Messages, Mail, and Weather. Most of these are watchOS features rather than Series 10-exclusive functions, so some are available on older compatible Apple Watch models too.
Series 10 remains compatible with watchOS 26. Installing watchOS 26 requires an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE (3rd generation or later), running iOS 26. At launch, the requirement was less demanding: an iPhone XS or later, including the second-generation iPhone SE, running iOS 18.

When buying used, check the battery health, activation-lock status, exact case material, cellular model, included charger, and whether the watch has been exposed to water or a hard impact. A cheap Series 10 with a severely worn battery or locked account is not a bargain.

FAQ
When did Apple Watch Series 10 go on sale?
Apple Watch Series 10 became available on September 20, 2024, following its announcement on September 9, 2024. Its original U.S. starting price was $399.
Is Apple Watch Series 10 still supported?
Yes. Series 10 remains compatible with watchOS 26. Updating to watchOS 26 requires an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE (3rd generation or later), running iOS 26.
Can Apple Watch Series 10 detect sleep apnea?
It can provide a possible sleep apnea notification after analyzing breathing disturbances over a 30-day evaluation period. You must wear it for at least 10 nights during that period. It does not diagnose or treat sleep apnea.
Can Apple Watch Series 10 be used for scuba diving?
No. Series 10 is suitable for shallow-water activities and its Depth app works to a maximum of 6 meters (20 feet), but it is not a dive computer and should not be used for scuba diving.
Does Apple Watch Series 10 work with Android phones?
No. Apple Watch pairs only with an iPhone. It does not support Android phones.
The Bottom Line
Apple Watch Series 10 remains one of Apple’s most balanced standard watches: thinner than its predecessors, easier to read at an angle, faster to charge, and equipped with meaningful health and water-related upgrades. Its 18-hour battery rating and iPhone-only compatibility still matter, while regional restrictions can affect Blood Oxygen and other health functions.
In 2026, buy it as a previous-generation model rather than assuming it is current. A well-priced Series 10 with healthy battery capacity, the right case size, and an unlocked account can still be an excellent everyday Apple Watch. Compare its price carefully with the current Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3 before committing.
